Box Score

The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff soccer team erupted for five second-half goals and won handily over the East Central University Lady Tigers, 7-0, at a windy Kimbrough Memorial Stadium on Friday in Lone Star Conference action.

Junior forward Katie Henley netted her first career hat trick and added an assist, while sophomore forward Sarit Shenar tallied a pair of goals and two assists, in playing in front of her father, who is visiting from Israel this weekend. Senior midfielder Nicole deJongh posted three assists and a goal in helping WTAMU snap a two-game losing skid, improving to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the LSC. ECU is now 7-6-1 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

The Lady Buffs fired off 30 shots, 19 on goal, including 22 shots in the second half, while the WTAMU defense limited ECU to just seven shots, four on goal.

Senior goalie Jamie Roach made two saves before being lifted for redshirt freshman Sarah Anderson in the 74th minute. Roach now has four and a half shutouts, while Anderson has one and a half blankings.

deJongh opened the scoring with a shot from 8-yards out off an assist from Henley in the 12th minute. Seven minutes later, deJongh found Shenar who buried the ball in the low corner of the net to give WTAMU a 2-0 advantage, and hat would remain the score for the first half.

Henley started the second-half scoring parade with a one-timer from close range off an assist from Shenar in the 52nd minute. Four minutes later deJongh hit senior midfielder Aubrey Hunter, who dribbled around the keeper and fired into the gaping net for a 4-0 WTAMU lead in the 56th minute.

deJongh posted her third helper of the match to Henley, who one-timed it into the net in the 76th minute, and 20 seconds later Henley completed her hat trick with a give and go through the ECU defense from Shenar to put the Lady Buffs ahead 6-0 at the 76:01 mark.

Shenar capped the scoring with her team-leading 17th goal of the year, taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Linsday Sheffield and drilling the ball between the ECU keeper's legs into the net.

WTAMU has its home finale on Sunday, Oct. 24, when the Lady Buffs host Northeastern State University at 1 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. NSU is 7-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the LSC, after losing to Eastern New Mexico, 3-1, on Friday at Portales, N.M.
