CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road for Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they battle Dallas Baptist on Friday night at the Berg Center followed by a Saturday matchup at Texas Woman's.
 
DBU
The Patriots ride a six-match win streak into Friday night's matchup at the Burg Center as they are 9-2 overall and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference action. DBU topped Texas A&M-International in five sets during their LSC opener followed by a sweep of Texas Woman's last Saturday in Dallas.
 
Karley Wells leads the high-powered DBU attack as the Fort Worth product has 129 kills (3.69/set) with an attack percentage of .202 to go along with 22 digs and 16 total blocks. The senior ranks 35th in the country in kills per set (3.69) and 43rd in attacks per set (10.17). Reagan Fifer and Lauren Witte have both registered 104 kills this season while Zoe Gun holds the team-lead in assists (226).
 
Aizlyn Dewberry has been a force on the front row as the sophomore from Wink has a team-best 48.0 blocks (44 assists) to rank to rank 15th in the country in blocks per set (1.20). DBU ranks 44th nationally in both assists per set (12.25) and kills per set (13.28) while sitting 33rd in win-loss percentage (.818). 
 
DBU HEAD COACH JORDAN FISH
Jordan Fish is now in her sixth season at the helm of the DBU volleyball program, holding an overall record of 104-48 during her time in Dallas. The former Virginia Tech standout has led the Patriots to three NCAA Tournament appearances and the program's first ever LSC regular season title in 2023. 
 
The 2023 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year has produced seven AVCA All-Americans and six All-South Central Region selection. Fish came to DBU from Hill College where she led the Rebels to three trips to the NJCAA National Tournament and four consecutive Region 5 North Championships.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Friday night is the 20th all-time meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Lady Patriots as WT holds an 18-1 advantage in the series that dates back to 2004. The Lady Buffs are 3-1 inside of the Burg Center, winning their last two trips to Dallas during the 2024 campaign. Last year saw the Lady Buffs claim a straight-set victory over the Patriots in Canyon during their only meeting of the 2025 season.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-9 with a 0-2 mark in LSC play, looking to snap a four-match losing streak. TWU fell at DBU on Saturday in straight sets before suffering a sweep at the hands of Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday night in South Texas.
 
Mary Grace King leads the way offensively for the Pioneers as the sophomore from Fort Worth has 144 kills on 461 swings with 62 errors for an attack percentage of .178 to go along with six aces, eight assists, 110 digs and 21 total blocks for 162.0 points (3.77/set). Her 10.72 attacks per set ranks 22nd in Division II volleyball while also sitting 56th in total attacks (461).
 
Alyssa Rojo leads the way in the back row for the Pioneers, ranking 34th nationally in digs per set (4.95) and 54th in total digs (218). The senior from Lewisville, Texas has also registered 48 assists and 11 service aces with a season-best 26 digs coming against Lenoir-Rhyne back on August 27th. TWU is 16th in the country in teams attacks per set (38.48) along with 29th in digs per set (17.07) and 36th in blocks per set (2.16).
 
TWU HEAD COACH PHIL EVANS
Phil Evans is in his first season leading the Texas Woman's volleyball program, taking over in July of 2026. Evans joined the Pioneers after spending four seasons at Howard University, where he served as the Recruiting Coordinator and First Assistant. Working primarily with the Bison's offensive attack, Evans helped guide Howard to two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Regular Season Championships.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Saturday will be the 64th meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Pioneers as WT is 54-9 in a series that dates back to 1980. West Texas A&M is 17-4 in Denton, winning their last four trips to Kitty Magee Arena. Last season saw the Lady Buffs claim a four-set win over the Pioneers during the regular season in Canyon before TWU handed WT a four-set loss during the LSC Quarterfinals in San Angelo. 
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
Defending league champion Angelo State claimed 41 of the possible 54 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 951 points followed by WT (seven first place, 883), Lubbock Christian (three first place, 837), UT Tyler (778) and St. Mary's (one first place, 698) to round out the top five.
 
Texas Woman's sits sixth followed by Oklahoma Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville, DBU, Midwestern State, St. Edward's, UT Permian Basin, UT Dallas, Western New Mexico, Texas A&M International, Cameron and Eastern New Mexico.
 
THE GAMBLE ERA
Terry Gamble became the sixth head coach in WT history to lead the Lady Buffs to the NCAA Tournament during their inaugural season at the helm in 2025. The Three-time National Champion and NJCAA Hall of Famer was named the 17th head coach in Lady Buff Volleyball history on February 4, 2025. 
 
Gamble has compiled a career record of 1,130-363 (.759) as he was just the third head coach in NJCAA history to reach 1,000 career wins on October 15, 2024. Gamble came to Canyon following seven seasons at Blinn College. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning three NJCAA volleyball championships (2000, 2004, 2006) and three NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.
