CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M open up Lone Star Conference action this weekend as they host the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas and the Texas A&M International Dustdevils at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the weekend 7-4 overall on the season. Last week's LSC Challenge saw the Javelinas drop a four-set match to Midwestern State in Edmond on Friday before bouncing back with a sweep of Oklahoma Christian on their home floor on Saturday.
 
Freshman outside Cambelle Brammer has registered a team-best 132 kills on 353 swings for an attack percentage of .221 with 54 errors on as the Fruita, Colorado product has tallied six assists, three aces, 45 digs and 21 blocks.
 
Alayna Guerrero guides the TAMUK offense as the senior from Red Oak, Texas ranks 27th in the nation in assists (381) to average 11.89 per set to go along with five aces, 112 digs and 15 blocks. Tayae-Renae Garcia leads the back row with 223 digs which is 12th nationally to average 5.31 per set.
 
The Javelinas are sixth in the country in both digs per set (19.19) and attacks per set (39.26) while sitting eighth in total digs (806) and 17th in total attack attempts (1.649).
 
TAMUK HEAD COACH TANYA ALLEN-GONZALEZ
Tanya Allen-Gonzalez is in her 16th season at Texas A&M-Kingsville, holding an overall record of 264-176 during her time in South Texas with two trips to the NCAA Tournament (2016, 2023). She has coached four All-Americans and 44 All-Lone Star Conference selections in Kingsville.
 
Allen also served as the first head coach of the Kingsville beach volleyball program, winning the 2018 AVCA Small College National Championship in their inaugural season. Allen came to the Javelinas after three outstanding seasons as the head coach of the Frank Phillips College volleyball program.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Friday night will be the 72nd all-time meeting on the volleyball court between WT and Texas A&M-Kingsville, the Lady Buffs hold a 57-14 advantage in the series that started in 1980. The Javelinas are 6-29 all-time at the WTAMU Fieldhouse, dropping their last two trips to the Texas Panhandle.
 
TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL
The Dustdevils enter the start of Lone Star Conference action 6-5 overall as they ride a three-match win streak into the weekend. TAMIU took down Sul Ross State in straight sets last Thursday in Laredo followed by a thrilling five-set win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday during the LSC Challenge.
 
Mia Molina leads the way offensively for the Dustdevils as the senior from Laredo has 122 kills on 347 swings with 60 attack errors to hit .179 on the season to go along with 10 aces, 82 digs and seven total blocks for a team-best 136.5 points (3.69/set).
 
Giulia Gainelli paces the TAMIU offense with 276 assists (7.67/set) while the Tennessee State transfer has registered 15 aces and 94 digs. The Dustdevils rank 40th in Division II Volleyball in team service aces (81) while also sitting 51st in aces per set (2.13).  
 
TAMIU HEAD COACH TAMMIE JIMENEZ
Tammie Jimenez is in her third season at the helm of the Dustdevil volleyball program. She holds an overall record of 20-42 during her time in Laredo to go along with a career record of 240-189.
 
She came to Laredo from Midland College, winning a share of the WJCAC title, the NJCAA Region 5 West Championship, and an appearance in the 2010 NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship Tournament.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will be the 12th all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Dustdevils, WT holds a 10-1 advantage in the series that dates back to 2008. Texas A&M International is 0-5 all-time at the WTAMU Fieldhouse with all five matches ending in straight sets.
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
Defending league champion Angelo State claimed 41 of the possible 54 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 951 points followed by WT (seven first place, 883), Lubbock Christian (three first place, 837), UT Tyler (778) and St. Mary's (one first place, 698) to round out the top five.
 
Texas Woman's sits sixth followed by Oklahoma Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville, DBU, Midwestern State, St. Edward's, UT Permian Basin, UT Dallas, Western New Mexico, Texas A&M International, Cameron and Eastern New Mexico.
 
THE GAMBLE ERA
Terry Gamble became the sixth head coach in WT history to lead the Lady Buffs to the NCAA Tournament during their inaugural season at the helm in 2025. The Three-time National Champion and NJCAA Hall of Famer was named the 17th head coach in Lady Buff Volleyball history on February 4, 2025. 
 
Gamble has compiled a career record of 1,130-363 (.759) as he was just the third head coach in NJCAA history to reach 1,000 career wins on October 15, 2024. Gamble came to Canyon following seven seasons at Blinn College. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning three NJCAA volleyball championships (2000, 2004, 2006) and three NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES
The Lone Star Conference Volleyball Challenge – all non-conference matches – is complete and five of the 18 teams went 2-0: Angelo State, DBU, St. Mary's, Texas A&M International and UT Permian Basin. Conference play begins this week with 18 matches over Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. ASU (10-1), UT Tyler (9-1) and UTPB (5-1) have all lost just one match so far.
