CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes enter the 2026 NCAA South Central/West Regional Championships with high hopes as they compete at The Reserve at Spanos Park (Par 72 – 7,082 Yards) in Stockton, California.
The Buffs enter the tournament as the top seed in the South Central Region for the first time in program history following a run to the Lone Star Conference medal match play semifinals.
David Vega Gerstel became the first men's golfer in school history to win the Lone Star Conference Individual Championship back on April 21
st in Rockwall with rounds of 71, 71 and 75 for a 217 (+1).

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals, May 18–22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The Reserve at Spanos Park is a links-style course, which opened in 1999 and was designed by Andy Ragaust. The course features fast-breaking bent-grass greens with water from seven lakes coming into play on 12 of the 18 holes. The 7,132-yard championship layout has rye-grass fairways defended by 58 bunkers.
The weather forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures all three days with winds from the north at 10-15 mph.
The Buffs will be paired with Western Washington and Colorado State-Pueblo during the opening round on Thursday morning.
