CANYON, Texas – The Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road as they begin their final Lone Star Conference road trip of the regular season on Thursday night, taking on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the Steinke Center in Kingsville, Texas.
 
UT DALLAS REWIND
The Buffaloes played lock down defense last Thursday night as they forced 26 turnovers in a 75-63 Lone Star Conference victory over the UT Dallas Comets at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Brock Mishak led the Buffs with 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and recorded four steals. Fontaine Williams contributed 19 points, making six of six free throws. Zach Brown added 15 points and collected four rebounds. Jaylin Sledge posted two blocks and four steals, while also grabbing five rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the weekend with an overall record of 12-12 with a 9-7 mark in Lone Star Conference play as they sit tied for seventh in the league standings. The Javelinas are 7-4 inside of the Steinke Center so far this season with home wins over MSU Denver, College of Biblical Studies, UT Tyler, Cameron, Oklahoma Christian, Angelo State and St. Mary's.
 
Last week saw the Javelinas fall to Lubbock Christian on the road before responding with a 85-78 win at Midwestern State. Saturday afternoon saw the Javelinas shoot 45.6% (31-of-68) from the floor including 84.2% (16-of-19) from the free throw line as they out-rebounded the Mustangs 42-27 in the win. Daniel Sanchez was one of four Javelinas in double-figures, going 8-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-8 from deep for 20 points to go along with five boards, three assists and one steal.
 
Bryson Goldsmith leads the way offensively for the Javelinas as the junior guard from El Paso has gone 86-of-209 from the floor including 23-of-69 from deep to average 10.5 points per game with 67 rebounds, 31 assists, 24 steals and five blocks.
 
TAMUK HEAD COACH OMAR GONZALEZ
Omar Gonzalez is entering his third season as the head coach for the men's basketball program for Texas A&M-Kingsville. He holds an overall record of 29-50 during his time leading the Javelinas.
 
Gonzalez, who was an assistant coach for the Javelinas under former head coach and Javelina Hall of Famer Johnny Estelle, is the 17th head coach in program history. He has helped the Javelinas reach four NCAA Division II tournaments (2017, 2020, 2022, 2023), the first NCAA Tournament victory in Javlinas' history in the 2017 NCAA Division II tournament and has coached 23 all-conference selections for the Lone Star Conference.
 
THE SERIES
Thursday night is the 86th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Buffaloes and Javelinas. West Texas A&M is 58-27 in the series including 20-20 inside of the Steinke Center in Kingsville.
 
Last year's meeting saw the Javelinas lead 35-28 at the half on their way to a 65-60 victory in South Texas. The Buffs shot just 36.2% (21-of-58) from the floor including 28.6% (8-of-28) from behind the arc as the Javelinas forced 18 West Texas A&M turnovers. Ahamed Mohammed led the way offensively for the Buffs, going 6-of-18 from the field and 4-of-9 from deep for a team-high 16 points with four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021. Brown reached the 300-win plateau with an 87-68 victory at Cameron on February 5, 2026.
 
Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 282-71 (.804) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 302-84 (.787) overall and 163-50 (.773) in league action. 
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five.
 
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88).

LONE STAR CONFERENCE NEWS & NOTES
With two weeks remaining in the Lone Star Conference men's basketball regular season, No. 10 Eastern New Mexico (21-3 overall) and DBU (20-6 overall) are tied for first place at 14-2. ENMU has won a league-best nine in a row, while DBU has prevailed in five straight games.
 
No. 11 Lubbock Christian is in third place (22-4, 13-3 LSC), followed by No. 15 St. Edward's (23-4 overall) and Western New Mexico (19-5 overall) at 12-4. SEU has won seven games in a row. St. Mary's (17-7, 10-6 LSC), West Texas A&M (17-9, 9-7 LSC) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (12-12, 9-7 LSC) also have winning records in league play.
 
LCU's Amondo Miller Jr. (20.5) and WT's Fontaine Williams Jr. (20.2) are in a tight race for the league scoring title. SEU's Blake Nielson is close behind at 18.4 points per game.
 
LCU's Antonio Pusateri is in the only player in the league averaging double digit rebounds per game (10.7). UT Dallas' Peyton Dulin has the assists lead at 4.7 per game. ENMU's Jose Murillo leads in blocks per game (1.9), while teammate Cooper Jackson is tops in steals per game (3.1).
