Men’s Basketball Welcomes Randall Product KJ Thomas

CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M head men's basketball coach Tom Brown has announced the addition of Randall High School standout KJ Thomas for the 2026-27 campaign.

"KJ is a fantastic player on both ends of the court, he knows the game and has a toughness to him" said Brown "He has played a couple years and has competed at a high level. It will be fun to have KJ in the program as he knows how to win. KJ has a great family and we are excited to have him at WT!"

Thomas joins the Buffaloes following two seasons at UTEP. He played in 55 games with 24 starts for the Miners over the last two years, going 69-of-169 (40.8%) from the floor including 18-of-68 (26.5%) from behind the arc and 74-of-102 (72.5%) from the free throw line with 89 rebounds, 106 assists and 43 steals.

The 6'1 guard led the Randall Raiders to the only two State Tournament appearances in school history in 2023 and 2024. He was the fourth ranked point guard in Texas as a senior, breaking the RHS school record in scoring (2,592) and assists (583). KJ scored a school-record 50 points against Borger (2/10/2023) while also holding the RHS school record for made three-pointers (133) in a single season.

Thomas was a two-time TABC All-State selection (2023, 2024) while also being named the District 4-4A Most Valuable Player twice. He was tabbed the Amarillo Globe News Player of the Year during his junior campaign, leading the Raiders to the Class 4A Final Four.

"We are excited for KJ Thomas to be a Buffalo" added former Randall head coach Trevor Johnson "KJ is arguably the most decorated player to come out of Randall. Most importantly, he is a winner! Go Buffs!"
