CANYON, Texas – The #8 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M look to rebound on Thursday night as they welcome the UT Dallas Comets to the First United Bank Center for Lone Star Conference action beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.
 
EASTERN NEW MEXICO REWIND
The #8 Lady Buffs erased a 14-point deficit to start the fourth quarter on Tuesday night as they battled back to force overtime before falling to the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, 61-57 at the First United Bank Center in Lone Star Conference action. Kyla Kane led the team with 18 points, connecting on 6 of 16 field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers. Randi Harding contributed 15 points and secured two steals, showcasing her presence on both ends of the floor. Kenadee Winfrey added 10 points and three assists, converting 7 of 8 free throw attempts.
 
SCOUTING THE COMETS
UT Dallas enters the week with an overall record of 10-10 with a 7-6 mark in Lone Stat Conference action. The Comets are 4-4 so far this season on the road with victories at Sul Ross State, Western New Mexico, UT Permian Basin and St. Edward's. UT Dallas is making the transition to NCAA Division II following a 436-268 record with seven NCAA DIII Tournament Trips and five American Southwest Conference Championships.
 
The Comets split last week's LSC action in Richardson as they fell to #20 Lubbock Christian (68-44) on Thursday before responding with an 86-74 win over Midwestern State on Saturday. UTD shot 54.1% (33-of-61) from the floor against the Mustangs, forcing 20 MSU turnovers. Umi Otsuka led the way, going 12-of-18 from the floor including 5-of-6 at the free throw line for a game-high 29 points with one rebound, five assists and four steals.
 
Otsuka leads the way offensively for the Comets as the junior guard from Tokyo, Japan has gone 119-of-252 (47.2%) from the floor including 22-of-58 (37.9%) from deep and 45-of-59 (76.3%) from the charity stripe to average 16.1 points per game to go along with 60 rebounds, 62 assists, 20 steals and 11 blocks.
 
UTD HEAD COACH JOE SCHOTLAND
Joe Shotland is in his fourth season at the helm of the UT Dallas women's basketball program after being named just the third head coach in Comets history on July 7, 2022. In three seasons, Shotland has led the Comets to a 57-22 record overall and 67-32 mark in conference play.
 
UTD went 18-6 in 2024-25, playing against every division of competition as an independent. Shotland has coached nine All-Conference selections. A two-sport all-district performer at Bishop Lynch High School, Shotland played four seasons at Trinity from 2010-14, serving as team captain as a senior, and helped guide the Tigers to three SCAC titles during his career.
 
THE SERIES
Thursday night marks just the second all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Comets. WT claimed a 73-62 victory in Richardson back on December 13th. Thursday is the first meeting between the two teams at the FUBC.
 
The previous meeting saw the Lady Buffs pull away in the second half as they shot 43.8% (28-of-64) from the floor while forcing 16 UTD turnovers. Taylor Haggan led the way for WT, going 9-of-12 from the field for a team-best 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 29th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2024-25 campaign as they went 19-13 overall with a 12-10 mark in the LSC.
 
Prock reached the 300-career victory milestone on Thursday, December 4th in a 76-51 victory over Oklahoma Christian at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 298-49 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.3%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Lady Buffs were selected fourth in the 2025 LSC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Texas Woman's claimed 20 of the possible 51 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 810 points followed by Lubbock Christian (14 first place, 776), UT Tyler (eight first place, 761), West Texas A&M (six first place, 663) and Eastern New Mexico (two first place, 657) to round out the top five. Angelo State (656) sits sixth followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville (564), UT Permian Basin (466), Midwestern State (461), St. Mary's (438), St. Edward's (363), Oklahoma Christian (310), Cameron (262), Texas A&M International (one first place, 210), UT Dallas (168), Western New Mexico (161) and Sul Ross State (77).
 
LIVE COVERAGE
The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
