CANYON, Texas – The #16 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M hit the road for Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night as they make their way to the Rip Griffin Center to take on the #5 Lubbock Christian Chaps in a Top-25 showdown with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. in Lubbock.

ST. MARY'S REWIND
The then #20 Buffs closed out their homestand with a thrilling 84-81 LSC victory over the #23 St. Mary's Rattlers in double overtime at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
Fontaine Williams Jr. led the Buffs with 22 points and added seven rebounds.
Brock Mishak contributed 19 points and tallied nine assists.
Zach Brown scored 12 points, including four 3-pointers.
Jailyn Sledge posted 12 points and recorded two blocks.

SCOUTING THE CHAPS
Lubbock Christian enters the week riding a six-game winning streak as they are 15-2 overall with a 6-1 mark in Lone Star Conference action. The Chaps are a perfect 4-0 inside of the Rip Griffin Center so far this season with wins over Colorado School of Mines, Regis, UT Permian Basin and Angelo State.

The Chaps return to Lubbock for their first home game since December 6th following a 73-68 victory at Midwestern State last Thursday night. LCU carried a 10-point lead into the locker room on their way to the LSC win. The Chaps shot 42.4% (25-of-59) from the floor including 35.7% (10-of-28) from deep and 59.1% (13-of-22) from the charity stripe with 32 rebounds, 16 assists, four blocks and five steals. Amondo Miller Jr. led the way, going 7-of-14 from the field including 3-of-6 from behind the arc for a game-high 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

The senior guard from Littleton, Colorado leads the way offensively for the Chaps, going 126-of-243 (51.9%) from the floor to average 20.5 points per game to go along with 149 rebounds, 57 assists, 25 steals and six blocks. Miller Jr. has reached double-figures in 16 of 17 games so far this season.

LCU HEAD COACH TODD DUNCAN
Todd Duncan is entering his 15th season leading the men's basketball program after becoming the seventh head coach in program history and making his Lubbock Christian debut with the 2011-12 season.

Duncan holds an all-time record of 284-145 overseeing the Chaps. He has led the team to seven NCAA South Central Regional appearances overall, including each of the last six years and two Lone Star Conference Championships. He has coach 42 All-Conference selections in his Lubbock Christian tenure. Duncan began his collegiate playing career at Midland College followed by two seasons at Texas Tech. Duncan is the Red Raiders' career three-point shooting percentage leader with a mark of 46%.

THE SERIES
Thursday night marks the 40th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Buffs and Chaps in a series that dates back to 1978. The Buffaloes are 11-5 all-time at the Rip Griffin Center. West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian have split the 22 meetings between the two since LCU made the move to NCAA DIvision II. Last year saw the Chaps win all three meetings.

The last meeting between the two came on March 8, 2025 during the semifinal round of the Lone Star Conference Championships in Frisco. The Buffs held as much as a 16-point lead before LCU battled back to secure a 76-67 vitory in overtime.
Ahamed Mohammed led the way for WT going 10-of-23 from the floor including 2-of-4 from deep for a team-best 28 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021.Â

Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 279-65 (.810) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 299-78 (.792) overall and 160-44 (.782) in league action.Â

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five.

Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88).

NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL
The Buffaloes are ranked 16th in this week's edition of the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday afternoon. The South Central Region is represented by Lubbock Christian (5th), Black Hill State (15th), West Texas A&M (16th), St. Edward's (18th), Eastern New Mexico (24th), Dallas Baptist (25th) and St. Mary's (RV).

LSC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
West Texas A&M junior guard
Brock Mishak averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and 6.5 assists to lead the No. 20-ranked Buffs to a pair of top-25 conference wins against No. 17 St. Edward's and No. 23 St. Mary's.Â

Mishak shot 50 percent from the field, made 11 of 13 free-throw attempts and added one block. He scored a career-high 21 points against SEU and dished out a career-high nine assists against StMU. Mishak's play has helped WT win three games in a row and four of its last five. He has scored in double figures and had at least four assists in all of those games.
