CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M women's soccer return to The Pitch on Saturday afternoon as they continue Lone Star Conference action against the Lobos of Sul Ross State with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.

ST. EDWARD'S RECAP
The Hilltoppers withstood a late push by the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs to claim a 3-2 Lone Star Conference victory at The Pitch in Canyon last Saturday.
Yamilet Ruiz netted a goal in the 58th minute, narrowing the deficit to 3-1, and just over ten minutes later,
Jezmin Castellanos Reyes added another goal to bring the Lady Buffs within striking distance.

A LOOK AT THE LOBOS
Sul Ross State enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-6 with an 0-3 mark in Lone Star Conference action as the Lobos have dropped their last three matches. SRSU is coming off of a 3-0 shutout loss to Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday afternoon in Alpine as the Eagles scored a pair of first half goals on their way to a win.

Cali Triggs leads the way offensively for the Lobos as the junior forward from Mansfield, Texas has scored a pair of goals on three shots with two of them coming on goal. The Lobos have been outscored 13-3 so far this season with their lone victory coming in a 3-1 decision over University of the Southwest back on September 13
th.

SRSU HEAD COACH JOHN DOMINGUEZ
John Dominguez has quickly made his mark as one of the youngest and most dynamic coaches in collegiate soccer, leading the women's soccer program at Sul Ross State since 2021. Under his guidance, the team has undergone remarkable growth, expanding from a roster of 14 to an impressive 34 players.in just three years.  Dominguez has coached seven all-conference selection and has seen 53 academic all-conference honorees.

THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will be just the second all-time meeting on the pitch between West Texas A&M and Sul Ross State. The first meeting came on October 12
th of last season as the Lady Buffs claimed a 4-0 shutout win Canyon.

WT HEAD COACH TURK OZTURK
Bulut "Turk" Ozturk was named the third head coach in the history of the Lady Buff Soccer program on December 19, 2024. Ozturk brings an impressive nine-season track record of collegiate coaching experience to WT.

Ozturk was most recently on the coaching staff at Iowa State University for the 2024 season as the Soccer Development Coordinator. In this role, he was involved in all aspects of assisting a power four program that competes in the Big XII conference. Some of coach Turk's major duties included: Game Day coaching, video analysis for team members, scouting reports, recruiting, travel coordination and leading training sessions for the team.

Before Iowa State, Ozturk served as the Head Coach at Michigan Tech University for four seasons. During his tenure, he led the Huskies to their first NCAA tournament appearance in nearly a decade in 2023. Under his guidance, Michigan Tech achieved remarkable success with 17 players earning GLIAC All-Conference Awards, one All-American, over 60 players named to the All-Academic Excellence Team, and eight to the All-Academic Team.

The Lady Buffs were selected 10th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll announced on August 27th.Â

Dallas Baptist claimed 29 of the possible 45 first place votes for a total of 650 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Angelo State (13 first place, 634), Texas Woman's (one first place, 556), Midwestern State (511), St. Mary's (468), St. Edward's (435), Lubbock Christian (392), Oklahoma Christian (358), UT Tyler (347), West Texas A&M (284), Texas A&M International (one first place, 244), UT Dallas (168), UT Permian Basin (146), Eastern New Mexico (124) and Sul Ross State (one first place, 83).

Annie Rocha of St. Edward's was tabbed the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. DBU senior Parker Coe was named the Defensive Player of the Year while Amanda Farris of TWU claimed Goalkeeper of the Year accolades.
