William Amponsah continues to earn praise for his historic career, being named the 2025 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II National Male Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year announced on Thursday afternoon.

Amponsah, an 8-time track All-American who hails from Agona Swedru, Central, Ghana, capped a record-breaking season with two titles at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships: one in the 5000 meters and another in the 10,000 meters. It's in the 10,000 meters where Amponsah shattered the NCAA DII record earlier in the season with his 27:47.93 effort at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Amponsah cleaned up at the Lone Star Outdoor Championships, winning both of those events as well.

William becomes the first Buff to claim a USTFCCCA National Award since Benjamin Azamati in 2021, he is the fourth WT athlete to win an outdoor award presented by the association joining: Azamati, Zada Swoopes (2021, 2022) and Fatim Affessi (2019).

Amponsah cemented himself as one of the top distance runners in NCAA Division II history as the senior Won three races for the Buffaloes during the 2024 cross country campaign. Amponsah was selected as the 2024 LSC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, the second time he has been named the award recipient.Â

William won his second NCAA Division II men's cross country individual title (29:40.9/10k) becoming the first repeat national champion since 2014. Amponsah was the LSC individual winner (23:16.28/8k) and runner-up at the Division II South Central Regional (31:17.0/10k). The All-American was the recipient of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Doug Watts Award as the 2024 Division II Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year.Â
