Abugire and Amponsah Honored by the Lone Star Conference

CANYON, Texas –
 West Texas A&M's Abigail Abugire and William Amponsah continued to add to their already impressive resumes on Tuesday afternoon as they pair were honored by the Lone Star Conference as the Outdoor Track Athletes of the Year.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville's Ronald Grueso Mosquera and Angelo State's Kylie Frush claimed 2025 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year honors.
 
Amponsah, who is a senior from Agona Swedru, Central, Ghana, was the NCAA Division II and LSC champion in the 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters. It was the second straight year Amposah won both the national (29:29.41) and LSC title (30:51.63) in the 10,000m. Earlier in the season, he broke the all-time Division II 10,000m record with a 27:47.93 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. In the 5,000m, he ran a 14:26.23 at nationals and a 14:24.74 at conference.
 
Abugire, who is a freshman from Legon, Ghana, was the national champion in the 800-meters with a program-record 2:02.93. She was the conference's only female track athlete at the national meet to win a gold medal. In addition, Abugire was also part of WT's 4x400 meter relay team that placed eighth at nationals with a school-record 3:35.22. At the LSC meet, she also won the 800 (2:03.73), as well as the 1,500 meters (4:34.11).
 
All four athletes earned All-American recognition by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and were All-LSC selections. The LSC honors were voted on by the league's head coaches.
