Boyer, Vortherms Earn D2CCA All-Region Accolades

SAN ANTONIO – West Texas A&M softball players Emilee Boyer and Heidi Vortherms earned Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association All-Region honors on Monday. Boyer was named the South Central Region Player and Pitcher of the Year while Vortherms earned Second Team honors.
 
Boyer, a utility player and pitcher from Harrisburg, S.D., earns First Team honors for the third time in her career. The junior enters the NCAA Super Regionals with a .469 batting average, a .956 slugging percentage and a .578 on-base percentage. She leads the team with 21 home runs, and 34 of her 75 hits are for extra bases. In the circle, Boyer is 28-4 in 37 appearances with 13 complete games, two saves and a 2.02 ERA. She has struck out 235 batters and has five complete game shutouts. Opponents are hitting only .198 against her this season.
 
Vortherms picks up Second Team accolades after posting a 2.15 ERA with 126 strikeouts in 123.2 innings pitched over 33 appearances. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native holds a 19-2 record with five complete games and two shutouts with opponents hitting .239 against the senior pitcher. It is the second D2CCA All-Region honor for Vortherms' career.
 
The Lady Buffs face off against top-ranked UT Tyler for the NCAA Super Regional series on May 15-16. Game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Tyler with game two scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday. If necessary, game three will be approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.
