CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M wraps up its South Texas road trip on Sunday when the Lady Buffs take on the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International. WT and TAMIU are scheduled for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at the Dustdevil Softball Field in Laredo.

The Athletic Communications Department from Texas A&M International will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. Fans will need to purchase a monthly ($19.99) or annual ($107.88) subscription with FloSports, the official streaming provider of the Lone Star Conference. A LOOK AT THE #5 LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M softball posted another series sweep on Friday, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville twice. The Lady Buffs pulled away late in game one for a 13-4 victory before an Emilee Boyer home run in the seventh inning proved to be the difference in game two, 3-2. WT improves to 22-2 on the season and 12-2 in Lone Star Conference play while the Javelinas fall to 13-12 overall and 8-6 in league play.
 
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including hits, home runs, on-base percentage, RBIs, runs, scoring, slugging percentage, and stolen bases. WT leads the country in batting average, doubles, and triples.
 
Junior Lauren Granger's .508 batting average leads the team where 13 different players have a .333 batting average or higher. Granger's 36 hits, 1.042 slugging percentage, and five triples rank in the top 10 of Division II while her 75 total bases lead the country. Emilee Boyer's 34 RBIs lead the nation as the junior utility also ranks in the top 25 in home runs, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.
 
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.91 ERA with 157 strikeouts and 38 earned runs in 139 innings. Boyer and Vortherms have over 60 strikeouts each on the season as Kendall Selitzky also has double digits (17) on the season.
 
Head Coach Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 208-55 (.791) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 362-116 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .757.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL
The Dustdevils took both games of their doubleheader with Midwestern State on Friday. After trailing 3-0 in game one, TAMIU scored five unanswered to defeat the Mustangs. Game two saw a big fifth inning from the Dustdevils propel them to an 11-7 victory for the sweep.
 
Jenna Fabela leads the Texas A&M International offense as the junior holds a .415 batting average with a .909 OPS, .453 slugging average, and .456 on-base percentage. Kennedy Griego follows with a .395 batting average, .936 OPS, .469 slugging percentage, .467 on-base percentage, 32 hits, and 10 walks
 
As a pitching staff, Texas A&M International holds a 4.03 ERA in 166.2 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .295 while hitting 27 doubles, five triples, and 23 home runs while striking out 66 times. Nevaeh Herrera leads the team with a 2.52 ERA on 11 appearances and three starts with a complete game, a shutout, and 10 strikeouts. Zakayia Fredrick follows with a 3.50 ERA and 21 strikeouts on 12 appearances and nine starts with three complete games, a shutout, and a save.
 
Scott Libby is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Texas A&M International program and 17th overall. Libby holds a 353-509 (.410) record for her career with a matching record at the helm of the Dustdevils. 
 
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Texas A&M International 22-4 with a 4-3 record in Laredo. The Lady Buffs are 9-1 against the Dustdevils under Michael Mook. In the 2024 season, TAMIU gave WT all it could handle in the series. Game one saw the Lady Buffs escape with a 2-1 victory on a two-run home run from Emilee Boyer. The second game saw a solo shot prove to be the difference before a 4-0 victory in game three sealed the series sweep.

NFCA RANKINGS 
UT Tyler received all 16 first-place votes for 400 points to remain in the top spot of the poll. Auburn Montgomery (382), Tampa (365) and Angelo State (354) held at the second through fourth spots. West Texas A&M (331) moved into the top five with Rogers State (322), Augustana (300), Francis Marion (289), Western Washington (269), and North Georgia (251) following.
 
The South Central region is represented by four teams with UT Tyler leading the way at No. 1. Angelo State (4th), WT (5th), and Oklahoma Christian (19th) earned spots in the rankings.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Buffs continue their stretch of games away from Schaeffer Park on Friday, March 14 at Sul Ross State. WT is set to take on the Lobos at 5 p.m. in Alpine.
