CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M junior
Abby Howell connected on three homeruns to power the #5 Lady Buffs to a Lone Star Conference doubleheader sweep of the UT Dallas Comets on Friday evening at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.

The Lady Buffs travel to South Texas for Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they take on Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Game 1 – West Texas A&M 13, UT Dallas 1 (5 Innings)
The Lady Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning on an Abbey Howell two-run homerun to center field followed by a
Brooke Janning RBI double to plate
Cadence Colborn at 3-0. UT Dallas used the long ball to cut into the lead in the top of the third with a Rachel Wallace solo shot to right at 3-1.

Howell connected on her second long ball of the afternoon to lead off the bottom of the third followed later in the inning by a UTD defensive miscue that scored another run,
Mya Chacon kept the inning alive with an infield RBI single followed by a
Bella Holland walk with the bases loaded and a
Jordyn De Los Santos grand slam to right field at 11-1.

The Lady Buffs added some insurance runs in the home half of the fourth with RBI from Chacon and
Lily Mulder to make it 13-1.

Brooke Janning claimed the win (17-2) for the Lady Buffs, allowing one earned run on one hit with one walk and four strikeouts in her 3.0 innings of work.

Game 2 – West Texas A&M 18, UT Dallas 2 (5 Innings)
WT jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as Holland jumped on the fifth pitch of the game for a solo shot to center field that sparked a six-run opening frame. UT Dallas used the long ball to cut into the lead in the top of the second with a Claire Pollack shot to make it 6-1.

The Lady Buffs continued their offense output in the second inning with five more runs as Howell connected on her third homer of the day for the 11-1 lead. WT added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning on a
Laci Peskey RBI groundout to score Howell followed by a
Heaven Moreno two-run single up the middle and a Holland two-run double, WT wasn't done yet as De Los Santos doubled to left for the 17-1 lead.

UT Dallas cut into the lead in the top of the fourth on a Megan DeWitt RBI single to right with two outs that scored Wallace at 17-2.
Landri Holcomb added to the lead in the bottom of the inning with her first collegiate homerun, a solo shot to left center for the 18-2 advantage.

Peskey claimed the win (17-4) in the circle, allowing one earned run on one hit with four walks and a strikeout in her three innings of work.
