Colborn Powers the #5 Lady Buffs to a Saturday Top-25 Sweep

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's Cadence Colborn connected on a pair of homeruns to lift the #5 Lady Buffs to a big Lone Star Conference sweep over the #12 Oklahoma Christian Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Tom Heath Field in Edmond, Oklahoma.
 
The Lady Buffs return to Schaeffer Park on Friday night as they host the UT Dallas Comets in a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m.
 
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 6, Oklahoma Christian 1
The Lady Buffs got on the board in the top of the second inning as Emily Liskai drove home Briley Daniels with an RBI single followed later in the frame by a Mya Chacon fielder's choice groundout to score Lily Mulder for the 2-0 lead.
 
WT broke the game open in the top of the fifth on a Colborn grand slam to right field to make it 6-0. Oklahoma Christian used the long ball in the bottom of the seventh to cut into the lead on a Marti Yearger solo shot at 6-1.
 
Brooke Janning claimed the win (16-2) for the Lady Buffs, allowing one earned run on four hits with no walsk and a strikeout in the complete game victory.
 
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 5, Oklahoma Christian 3
Bella Holland began the nightcap with a leadoff solo homerun to left center followed later in the inning by a Janning RBI single that scored Mulder at 2-0. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the opening inning on a Kallie Rupp RBI double at 2-1.
 
WT pushed across two runs in the top of the second inning as Holland singled home Heaven Moreno followed by a Trinity Kuntz base hit as Holland crossed the plate for the 4-1 advantage. The Eagles cut into the lead again in the home half of the fifth on a Rupp RBI single at 4-3. Colborn put the game away with an insurance run in the top of the fifth on a solo long ball at 5-3.
 
Laci Peskey picked up the win (16-4) in the circle, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three walks in her 5.0 innings of work, Janning claimed her second save as the freshman allowed no runs on three hits over the final two frames.
