CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M returns to Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium for one final time during the 2025 campaign as they host the Rams of Angelo State in Lone Star Conference action with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m. in Canyon.
 
WEEK 11 MATCHUPS
The final weekend of the regular season features five Lone Star Conference matchups. Midwestern State travels to Western New Mexico while Eastern New Mexico hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville. Angelo State makes their way to the panhandle to take on West Texas A&M while UT Permian Basin hosts Sul Ross State. The Lone Star Conference Championship is on the line in Monmouth, Oregon as league-leading Central Washington travels to Western Oregon.
 
MIDWESTERN STATE REWIND
The Buffaloes registered 651 yards of total offense with 214 of them coming on the ground as they rolled past the Mustangs of Midwestern State, 56-42 in LSC action at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. WT is now 6-2 in league action, marking their most victories in LSC play since the 2012 season.
 
STARTING FAST
The Buffaloes have scored points on their first possession of the game in seven of the first 10 games this season, averaging 5.2 plays and 50.1 yards per opening possession. West Texas A&M has received the opening kickoff in nine of the first 10 contests, averaging 1:34 of clock time per opening possession.
 
LSC WEEKLY HONORS
West Texas A&M sophomore wide receiver Zach Phipps had five catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Buffs to a 56-42 road win over Midwestern State. The three TD catches are the most in a single game in the LSC this season. Phipps found the end zone in the first, second and third quarters with two of those tying the game or giving the Buffs the lead. His longest TD reception was for 35 yards. Phipps is second in the LSC with eight TD catches on the year.

West Texas A&M will honor the senior class of 2025 prior to kickoff on Saturday afternoon against Angelo State. 
 
YOUTH SPORTS DAY
WT Athletics welcome all youth sports teams to cheer on the Buffs on Saturday. First 500 kids at the game Saturday receive a free WT replica jersey. Saturday's game is presented by The People's Federal Credit Union.
 
ASU HEAD COACH JEFF GIRSCH
Jeff Girsch is now in his 11th season in San Angelo, serving the last eight as the head coach of the Rams. He has led Angelo State to the Lone Star Conference Championship in two of the last four seasons. Girsch took over the ASU program on November 4, 2018 after serving as the team's Defensive Coordinator.
 
A LOOK AT THE RAMS
Angelo State enters the final weekend of the regular season with an overall record of 6-4 with a 4-4 mark in Lone Star Conference action as the Rams sit fifth in the league standings. ASU looks to snap a two-game losing streak as they have fallen to #8 Central Washington (38-21) and Western Oregon (31-7) the past two weeks.
 
Last week's matchup at Western Oregon take a 21-7 lead into the locker room for halftime on their way to a 31-7 victory over the Rams. The Wolves had 347 yards of total offense with 272 of them coming on the ground. Angelo State could only produce 197 yards of offense as they threw three interceptions in the loss.
 
The Rams average 351.1 yards of total offense this season to rank 87th in al of NCAA Division II football including 1,792 passing yards with 28 touchdowns thru the air. ASU has a team passing efficiency of 142.15 which ranks 50th nationally as they have the 41st best scoring offense in the country with 32.7 points per game.
 
Lone Star Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Braedon Fuller guides the ASU offense as the junior from Floresville has completed 85-of-156 passes for 1,050 yards and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions during his injury-plagued campaign. Kaeden Smith has seen time in nine games at quarterback as the Manvel High School alum has thrown for 598 yards and 10 scores with a pair of picks. 
 
The Angelo State backfield features four players with atleast 50 rushing attempts as Cameron Dischler leads the way with 449 yards on the ground with three touchdowns followed by Jayden Jones with 431 yards on 84 carries and four scores. Hunter Wallis has caught a team-best 25 passes for 385 yards and seven touchdowns.
 
Nathan Morcom and Marquis Brown anchor the Angelo State defense as the pair have combined for 125 total tackles with 11.5 coming for a loss. Brown, a senior from Hillsboro, Oregon, has 62 tackles to go along with eight pass breakups and an interception.
 
THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the 39th all-time meeting on the gridiron between the Buffs and Rams as Angelo State holds a 23-15 advantage in the series as ASU has won the last three meetings. Angelo State is 11-8 all-time in Canyon including 2-2 at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES
Only one week in the Lone Star Conference football regular season remains.
 
No. 7 Central Washington (9-1 overall) has secured at least a share of the conference title with an 8-0 league record. Western Oregon (8-2 overall) remains in the hunt for a share of the crown at 7-1. The two meet up Saturday (Nov. 15) at 3:05 p.m. CT in Monmouth, Ore. CWU has won eight in a row. No. 17 UT Permian Basin, Texas A&M-Kingsville and West Texas A&M also prevailed in Week 10. 
 
WT is leading the league in total offense at 474.3 yards per game, followed by UTPB (452.4) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (448.8). CWU is scoring a league-high 47.7 points per game.
 
UTPB has the conference's top-rated defense, allowing just 297.1 yards per game. CWU (329.4), followed by WOU (343.9). Opponents are scoring just 17.6 points per game against CU, which leads the league.
 
UTPB is the least penalized team in the league, averaging just 45.3 yards per game.
 
HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his third season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history. Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Playoffs.
 
NEW FACES ON THE SIDELINE
WT Football welcomes four new faces to the full-time coaching staff as Justin Bane was named the new Offensive Coordinator for the Buffs. Mike Bethea will work with the linebackers while Adrian Duncan (running backs) and Cole McDowell (tight ends) also joined the offensive staff. Justin Richter was promoted to Defensive Coordinator in January following two seasons as the defensive backs/co-special team coordinator for the Buffs.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Buffaloes have been tabbed sixth in the 2025 LSC Preseason Poll announced during the league's annual Media Day in McKinney, Texas.
 
Defending LSC champion Angelo State claimed 23 of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 292 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Central Washington (four first place, 257), UT Permian Basin (two first place, 229), Texas A&M-Kingsville (one first place, 211), West Texas A&M (157), Midwestern State (139), Eastern New Mexico (88), Western New Mexico (53), Sul Ross State (51).

Saturday night's contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August of 2024 for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history. West Texas A&M Athletics announces the return of radio broadcasts for the 2025-26 campaign. 
 
Members of Buff Nation will now be able to listen to Kent Johnson, Lucas Kinsey and Brice Sheets in partnership with Alpha Media. Football pregame begins 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Thursday night's broadcast is available online (GoBuffsGo.com / KGNCNewsNow.com) as well as locally in the Texas Panhandle on 710 AM and 97.5 FM.
 
AIRING IT OUT
The new-look West Texas A&M offense has put up impressive numbers so far during the 2025 campaign. Senior quarterback RJ Martinez has completed 248-of-377 passes for 3,291 yards and 28 touchdowns . That is the most passing yards and touchdowns by a WT quarterback since Dustin Vaughan in 2013 (4,148 yards - 53 touchdowns).
