McDowell joins the Buffs from Warrensburg, Missouri where he worked with the tight ends at Central Missouri in 2024. The Mules went 9-3 last season with an appearance in the Heritage Bowl as they averaged 526.1 yards and 39.1 points per game.

McDowell joined the UCM staff following one season as a defensive graduate assistant working with linebackers at Tennessee State, while in Nashville he also handled the transfer recruitment duties for the defensive staff.Â

Cole played tight end for Murray State for three seasons, helping the Racers lead the Ohio Valley Conference in offense in 2021. Following his time at Murray State, McDowell earned his bachelor’s degree while playing his final collegiate season at West Alabama.
