Thursday, August 29, 2030 – Canyon, Texas (Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium)

"Thank you to Rob Courtney and the Colorado Mesa administrative staff for making this four-year agreement a reality. Scheduling a high-level regional matchup in Week Zero is the perfect start to the season" said WT Vice President of Athletics Doug Lipinski "Coach Kochevar is highly respected across Division II football and we look forward to great battles against the Mavericks."

The two teams, located 579 miles apart, have met only two previous times on the gridiron in 2006 and 2008.

"We're excited to announce this four-year series with West Texas A&M. These are exactly the kinds of quality matchups that generate energy for our student-athletes, campuses, and supporters" added CMU Director of Athletics Rob Courtney "We appreciate Doug Lipinski and their administration for their collaboration in making this happen, and we look forward to a competitive series."

The Buffs made an appearance in the program's seventh bowl game in 2025 as they defeated Arkansas Tech in the Heritage Bowl Powered by Riot. WT finished the season riding a four-game win streak with an 8-4 overall record. Josh Lynn guided the Buffs to the most victories in a season since 2021 as well as the most LSC wins since 2012.

Colorado Mesa is guided by Miles Kochevar who begins his fifth season at the helm in Grand Junction in 2026. Kochevar is no stranger to Canyon, serving as the Defensive Coordinator for the Buffs from 2017-18. Last season saw the Mavericks finish 6-5 overall with a 5-4 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as CMU won five of their final seven games of the campaign.
