CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M returns to the friendly confines of Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star Conference showdown with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m. in Canyon.

Fans are encouraged to wear throwback West Texas State merchandise to Saturday afternoon's game. The first 500 fans will receive a free throwback t-shirt. Saturday's game is sponsored by Pantex.

TAMUK HEAD COACH SCOTT PARR
Scott Parr was named the 13th head coach in Texas A&M-Kingsville history in December of 2024. Parr joined the Javelinas following three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at Louisiana Tech.

Parr was the head coach at Navarro College from 2019-21, leading the Bulldogs to the South West Junior College Conference Championship 2019 as Parr was named the league's Coach of the Year. Parr's 26-year coaching career includes serving as Offensive Coordinator at Eastern Illinois, Senior Offensive Analyst at Texas Tech and Offensive Coordinator at West Texas A&M. Parr has also worked with programs at Tarleton State, Baylor and Sam Houston State.

The Plainview product is no stranger to West Texas A&M as he served as the Offensive Coordinator for the Buffs from 2006-09. The Buffaloes broke 64 school and Lone Star Conference records during that span as his offense was ranked in Division II Top 10 in scoring, passing and total offense for three seasons (2007-09).

A LOOK AT THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-5 with a 2-4 mark in Lone Star Conference action. The Javelinas look to snap a two-game losing streak as they fell at #10 Central Washington (24-21) two weeks ago followed by a 34-27 loss to Western Oregon last Saturday in Kingsville.

Last week's matchup against the Wolves saw WOU register 306 yards of total offense with 216 of them coming on the ground. Jack Turner completed 29-of-44 passes for 297 yards and four scores with an interception to lead the Javelinas.

The Javelinas have averaged 426.3 yards of total offense per game this season to rank 31st in Division II Football. Kingsville is 10th nationally in passing offense as they average 297.3 yards thru the air. Defensively they have allowed 26.88 points and 377.1 yards per contest.

Turner has been impressive during his first season in South Texas after transferring to Kingsville from Louisiana Tech. The senior from Round Rock has completed 191-of-314 passes for 2,327 yards and 16 touchdowns to go along with nine interceptions. Turner is fifth in the country in completions per game (23.88) while ranking seventh in passing yards (2,327) and 10th in total offense (297.1).

Edward Chumley leads the way in the backfield for the Javelinas as the freshman from Anna, Texas has registered 105 carries for 542 yards and six touchdowns. King Phillips is the go-to receiver for Turner, catching 51 passes for 701 yards and three touchdowns to rank 12th nationally in yards. Teammate Christian Kretz leads the Javelinas with five touchdowns on 36 catches with 550 yards.

Julian Payne anchors the TAMUK defensive unit as the junior linebacker from Missouri City, Texas has a team-leading 41 total tackles (22 solo) with 4.5 of them coming for a loss with 0.5 sacks to go along with one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and an interception.

THE SERIES
Saturday night will mark the 40th all-time meeting on the gridiron between the Buffs and Javelinas in a series that dates back to 1939. Texas A&M-Kingsville is 20-18-1 as they are 10-7 in Canyon including a 31-24 win at Buffalo Stadium in 2022.

Last year's meeting in Kingsville saw the Buffs score 21 second half points with 14 coming in the fourth quarter to claim a 21-14 victory over the Javelinas.

WEEK 9 MATCHUPS
Week 9 will once again feature all league 10 teams in action with five conference matchups all on Saturday. Western New Mexico hosts UT Permian Basin while Midwestern State travels to the Pacific Northwest to take on Western Oregon. WT hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville while Sul Ross State drives to Portales to face off with Eastern New Mexico, Angelo State also makes a long road trip to battle Central Washington.

The #23 Falcons of UT Permian Basin scored points on their first two possessions of the game and never looked back on Saturday night, securing a 22-6 Lone Star Conference victory over West Texas A&M at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland, Texas

RJ Martinez completed 11 of 32 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 17 yards on five attempts.
Sean Johnson made an impact with a five-yard touchdown reception. On defense,
Andre Johnson led with 2.5 sacks and added four tackles.

Miles Hill both shared the team lead with 12 total tackles each.

The Buffaloes have scored points on their first possession of the game in six of the first eight games this season, averaging 6.2 plays and 54.5 yards per opening possession. West Texas A&M plays their 38th home contest inside Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Buffs are 24-13 since the state-of-the-art facility was opened in 2019. West Texas A&M averages 6,126 fans per game with the largest crowd coming on opening night when 10,145 members of BuffNation saw WT defeat Azusa Pacific, 35-16 on September 7, 2019.

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, No. 8 Central Washington is atop the Lone Star Conference football standings at 6-0 and has won six straight games.

Western Oregon (6-2, 5-1) increased its winning streak to four games and is now receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 poll. Week 8 winners also included No. 16 Angelo State, No. 20 UT Permian Basin and Eastern New Mexico.

ENMU junior running back broke the LSC's single-game rushing record with a 382-yard performance with five TDs in a win over Western New Mexico. The Greyhounds also tied the NCAA Division II mark with 719 rushing yards.

WT is leading the league in total offense at 449.9 yards per game, followed by WNMU (443.8) and CWU (427.4). CWU is scoring a league-high 45.8 points per game.

UTPB has the conference's top-rated defense, allowing just 297.6 yards per game. CWU and ASU are tied for second at 348.1 yards per game. Opponents are scoring just 18 points per game against UTPB, which leads the league.

HEAD COACH JOSH LYNN
Josh Lynn is now in his third season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in WT history. Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Playoffs.

WT Football welcomes four new faces to the full-time coaching staff as
Justin Bane was named the new Offensive Coordinator for the Buffs.
Mike Bethea will work with the linebackers while
Adrian Duncan (running backs) and

Justin Richter was promoted to Defensive Coordinator in January following two seasons as the defensive backs/co-special team coordinator for the Buffs.

The Buffaloes have been tabbed sixth in the 2025 LSC Preseason Poll announced during the league's annual Media Day in McKinney, Texas.

Defending LSC champion Angelo State claimed 23 of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 292 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Central Washington (four first place, 257), UT Permian Basin (two first place, 229), Texas A&M-Kingsville (one first place, 211), West Texas A&M (157), Midwestern State (139), Eastern New Mexico (88), Western New Mexico (53), Sul Ross State (51).

The new-look West Texas A&M offense has put up impressive numbers so far during the 2025 campaign. Senior quarterback
RJ Martinez has completed 186-of-297 passes for 2,454 yards and 18 touchdowns thru eight games. That is the most passing yards and touchdowns by a WT quarterback since Preston Rabb in 2014 (2,912 yards - 19 touchdowns).Â

WEST TEXAS STATE THROWBACK
The Buffaloes will wear throwback helmets for Saturday's matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville. The white helmet with maroon horns pays homage to then West Texas State from 1982-84 with WT also wearing the look from 1996-01. The maroon horn decal dates back to 1965 with the Buffs also featuring a version of the the look with a maroon stripe beginning in 1971.
