CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team looks to register its first win of the 2024 season on Thursday when the Buffs take on longtime rival Eastern New Mexico. The Buffs and Greyhounds kick off their non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

All TIME SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Eastern New Mexico, 23-8-1. The Buffs and Greyhounds first met in 2004 and last met Oct. 4, 2023. In the last meeting, WT defeated ENMU in its Lone Star Conference opener, 3-0. The Buffs have won two straight games against the Greyhounds and are 7-2-1 in the last 10.

SCOUTING EASTERN NEW MEXICO
Eastern New Mexico opened its season with a 2-0 win against Adams State before a 1-1 draw with No. 21 Fort Lewis. Ben Sauerlander leads the Greyhounds with three points on one goal and an assist. Nick Hueing and Robin Vandewalle have also netted a goal while Teddy McIntyre has registered two assists. Augustin Banhire, Yahir Jimenez, and Kevin Nunez have also recorded assists on the season. In goal, Milo Paci has started both games, allowing one goal over 180 minutes. The freshman goalkeeper has recorded 10 saves on 23 shots faced.

BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 34th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 370-172-55 (.671) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 567-239-71 (.687) overall record at WT.

LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs couldn't overcome an early goal from the MSU Denver Roadrunners as WT fell 2-0 in Denver on Sunday. In the second half, the Buffs looked to have the offense moving up the field, but multiple MSU Denver stops quieted the WT offense. The Roadrunners then turned their defense into offense, putting pressure on the Buffs' back line. In the 76
th minute, MSU Denver found an insurance goal as Noah Hannula converted a penalty kick. At the end of the game, the Roadrunners held a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 7-2 lead in shots on goal.

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament champion Midwestern State received all but one of the 33 possible first-place votes for a total of 362 points. WT finished second in the voting with a total of 303 points followed by St. Mary's with 275 points and a first-place vote. Dallas Baptist (266) and Texas A&M International (211) round out the top five with Lubbock Christian (179), Oklahoma Christian (174), Eastern New Mexico (136), and UT Tyler (124) following. St. Edward's (113) and Sul Ross State (35) finish out the poll.

Midwestern State's Mere Escobar and Juan Galindo were tabbed the LSC Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while St. Mary's Johnny Thurbin earned Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
