CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M tied up Saturday night's Lone Star Conference Quarterfinal matchup in the 62
nd minute before the Chaps of Lubbock Christian scored the game-winner with just over three minutes to play as LCU ended the Buffs' season with a 2-1 victory at the LCU Soccer Complex.
The first half kicked off with a defensive focus from WT as their goalkeeper,
Zach Kos, made several crucial saves. Lubbock Christian controlled the early offensive momentum, with Geoffroy Letienne scoring in the 20th minute, assisted by Manu Nunez, to give them a 1-0 lead. Kos saved shots from Francisco Horta, Augusto Militao, and Andrea Monticelli, while
Felix Casas and
Arthur Macri tested Lubbock Christian's Connor Pettigrew. A significant moment occurred when West Tex. A&M's
Finley Axcell received a red card in the 36th minute, reducing them to ten players. Despite being outnumbered, the Buffs held firm, concluding the half down by one.
The second half saw the Buffs'
D'Jonte Davis equalize the score in the 63rd minute with a goal, bringing the match to a 1-1 tie. Lubbock Christian responded in the 87th minute when Augusto Militao, assisted by Francisco Horta, scored to put the home team ahead 2-1. Both teams exhibited aggressive play with multiple fouls and yellow cards. Kos made a critical save in the 77th minute, while Lubbock Christian's Pettigrew denied Davis's attempts to score in the 80th and 88th minutes. The match concluded with Lubbock Christian holding on to their lead.
Davis scored a goal and converted all three of his shots into shots on goal. Kos recorded five saves, with four in the first half, facing 23 shots in total. Macri and
