CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's soccer jumps into postseason action on Saturday night as they make the short trip down Interstate 27 to battle the rival Chaps of Lubbock Christian in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the LCU Soccer Facility in Lubbock.
 
ST. EDWARD'S REWIND
The Buffaloes surrendered a goal in the 14th minute as they couldn't find an answer in the regular season finale on Wednesday night at Lewis-Chen Family Field, falling the to the St. Edward's Hilltoppers 1-0 in Lone Star Conference action in Austin, Texas.
 
THE FIELD IS SET
The six-team field has been announced for the 2025 Lone Star Conference Men's Soccer Championship, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 (quarterfinals), Wednesday, Nov. 12 (semifinals) and Saturday, Nov. 15 (final). Punching its tickets are Midwestern State, St. Edward's, Lubbock Christian, DBU, UT Tyler and West Texas A&M. New league member UT Dallas had 22 points and Sul Ross State had 11 points, but due to both being NCAA Division II provisional members, they are not eligible for postseason play.
 
The winner of the event will be named the LSC Men's Soccer Tournament champion and earn the league's automatic qualification to the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship. The regional selection show is Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. After the first round (Nov. 21), second round (Nov. 23), third round (Nov. 30) and quarterfinals (Dec. 6) at sites to be determined, the national semifinals (Dec. 12) and final (Dec. 14) are scheduled be at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 
QUARTERFINAL MATCHUPS
Saturday will see a pair of quarterfinal matchups in the LSC Championships as Midwestern State and St. Edward's earned a bye to the semifinal round.

(5) UT Tyler at (4) Dallas Baptist, 6:00 p.m.
 
A LOOK AT THE CHAPS
Lubbock Christian enters Saturday night with an overall record of 6-7-4 with a 5-2-3 mark in LSC action to finish third in the league standings. The Chaps closed the regular season with a scoreless draw at Sul Ross State on Wednesday night in Alpine. LCU is 3-4-1 so far this season at home in Lubbock.
 
Francisco Horta leads the way offensively for the Chaps as the senior forward from Garland has scored five goals to go along with as assists for a team-best 11 total points. He has tallied 29 shots with 14 of them coming on goal with a pair of game winners for the Chaps.
 
LCU HEAD COACH COLLIN CONE
Collin Cone was hired as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Lubbock Christian University in April of 2022, coming to LCU after leading the men's soccer team at LeTourneau University for four seasons. In his three seasons as the Lubbock Christian head coach, the Chaps have posted an overall record of 18-18-17. 
 
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Lubbock Christian 11-9-1 in a series that dates to 2013. In the series, WT is 4-5 on the road and 7-4-1 in conference play against the Chaps. WT's last trip to Lubbock came on October 23, 2024 as a Matteo Landais goal in the 58thminute was enough for the Buffs to claim a 1-0 victory. Earlier this season the Chaps picked up a 2-1 victory over the Buffs on Senior Night in Canyon.
 
WT HEAD COACH BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is now in his 35th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is the longest tenured head coach in WT history in a storied career dating back to 1991. Lauffer reached the 500-win plateau on Sept. 30, 2017 with a dominating 13-2 win over UT Permian Basin. 
 
During his tenure, Lauffer coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons from 1993 to 2023 and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 388-185-60 (.665) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 578-252-76 (.683) overall record at WT.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
West Texas A&M was picked fifth in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Midwestern State claimed 16 of the possible 33 first place votes for 338 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (13 first place, 331), St. Edward's (three first place, 297), DBU (241), West Texas A&M (239), Lubbock Christian (169), UT Tyler (161), Oklahoma Christian (134), UT Dallas (104), Texas A&M International (one first place, 86) and Sul Ross State (78).
 
Arthur Souza of St. Edward's was tabbed the league's Preseason Player of the Year while Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin from St. Mary's claimed Defensive and Goalkeeper Preseason Honors.
