Botsio Makes the Finals at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – After two days of competition, West Texas A&M completes the second day of Texas Relays with Top-10 finishes and one final event on Saturday. WT Track and Field had the most student-athletes competing at the Texas Relays this past week than ever before with 37 student-athletes in the maroon and white. 
 
Isaac Botsio will compete in the men's 100-meter final on Saturday at 3:14 p.m at the Mike A. Myers Stadium. Botsio ran in the men's invitational division where he won his heat in 10.05 seconds and became an automatic qualifier for finals. His time was the second fastest behind University of Houston athlete, Shaun Maswanganyi at 10.02 seconds. He will compete in a field of 8 athletes from Houston, University of California, Arizona State, New Mexico Junior College, Louisiana Tech, BYU and Clemson. Fans can watch Botsio on ESPN+.
 
TEXAS RELAYS 
There were 20 Buffs and Lady Buffs that competed on Friday including three relay teams. Kicking off the day was the women's 4x100 relay consisting of three freshmen, Joy Udo-Gabriel, Deborah Acheampong, Amari Weatherford and veteran DeOndra Green. The Lady Buffs finished 12th out of 39 teams after running in 45.56 seconds. WT outpaced NCAA Division II competition from Academy of Art and Lenoir-Rhyne. Deborah Acheampong also competed in the 100-meter where she ran in 11.66 seconds and finishing 13th out of 93 opponents. 
 
In the field events, Luke Holcombe made the final nine in men's shot put by throwing 16.90m. Joseph Oreva went for 6.78m in the men's long jump and Daniela Pesic had a distance of 5.37m on the women's side of long jump. Miriam Zanovello took 7th in the women's triple jump hitting 12.23m, a season best for the graduate student. 
 
Hamdi Ali placed third in the men's high jump after successfully clearing his first two jumps on the first attempt before landing on 2.11m (7'1"). He tied for the 10th best outdoor jump in WT history. 
 
Four hurdlers stayed close to their top times with Laiten Greeson leading the way in the 100m hurdles and finishing in 13.98 seconds. Greeson took 14th out of 75 opponents while teammate Elliot Harrison finished 36thin 14.40 seconds. Buffs David Richards and Jefferson Jean were in the top-40 of the 110m hurdles competition with Richards finishing 18th in 14.41 seconds and Jean in 38th in 14.87 seconds. 
 
COMING UP
WT will host the Jo Meaker & Multi meet this week from April 4-6 at the WT Track and Field Complex in Canyon, Texas. Tickets will go on sale this Monday. Saturday's events will be broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Network by ThunderVision.
