CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M begins postseason play on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a Lone Star Conference quarterfinal match against Dallas Baptist. The Buffs and Patriots are scheduled to kick action off at 3 p.m. at The Pitch in Canyon. Saturday's match features a rematch from last year's LSC Semifinals where the teams tied in regulation before DBU outlasted WT in penalty kicks.

ALL TIME SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Dallas Baptist 16-1-1 in a series that dates to 1992. The Buffs won the first 16 meetings in the series before drawing in 2023. The Patriots earned their first win in the series earlier this season with a 2-1 victory in Dallas. In the regular season meeting, a Theo Bennetts penalty kick gave WT a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. DBU answered in the 31st when Evan Pustejovsky tied the game. The Patriots netted their game-winning goal in the 56th minute when Avery Brazzell found the back of the net. In the series, WT is 8-0 at home and 0-0-1 in postseason play against the Patriots.

SCOUTING DALLAS BAPTIST
The Patriots enter postseason play with an overall record of 5-5-7 and a 4-3-3 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Peyton Voelker leads the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists followed by Hunter Dierlam with 11 points on four goals and three assists. On the season, nine different players have scored for DBU with 11 players recording an assist. In goal, two different goalkeepers have seen time with Patrick Banich accounting for 855 of the team's 1,530 minutes although Garrett McGee has started the past eight games. Together, the pair have combined for 22 goals allowed and 47 saves on 195 shots faced for 1.29 goals against average, 0.681 save percentage, and four shutouts.

LAST TIME OUT
West Texas A&M men's soccer kept its unbeaten streak alive with a 1-0 win over St. Edward's on Senior Day at The Pitch. It wasn't until the 25th minute when WT recorded its first shot. Before entering the box, Rotem Weiss curled in a shot to freeze the goalkeeper. Weiss came within inches of giving the Buffs the lead but hit the cross bar. A minute later, WT nearly took the lead as Quintin Benn-John hit the post. After coming within inches of taking the lead twice, the Buffs broke through in the 35th minute when Matteo Landais found an open Zakaria Daaou in the box. Daaou took a touch and beat a defender before firing a shot into the top corner of the goal. As the clock went to its final seconds, the Buffs locked down the Hilltoppers to walk away with a victory.

BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 34th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 382-177-59 (.666) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 572-244-745 (.684) overall record at WT.

A LOOK AT THE BRACKET
St. Mary's earned the top seed and right to host the semifinal and championship games. The Rattlers also earned a first-round bye. Midwestern State also earned a bye with the No. 2 seed. St. Edward's received the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will host No. 6 UT Tyler at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Austin. The Buffs earn the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 DBU on Saturday at 3 p.m. The winners of the quarterfinal games will advance to San Antonio with the winner of DBU and St. Mary's playing St. Mary's and the winner of St. Edward's and UT Tyler playing Midwestern State. The semifinals will take place on Friday, Nov. 15 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. The championship is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.

A WIN WOULD
A win would put the Buffs back in the Lone Star Conference semifinals where WT would face St. Mary's at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio at 5 p.m.
