CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team hits the road for another Lone Star Conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 19 when the Buffs take on the Patriots of Dallas Baptist. WT (2-5-4, 0-1-3 LSC) and DBU (2-3-6, 1-1-2 LSC) will kick off action at 4 p.m. at the Patriot Soccer Field.

The Athletic Communications Department from Dallas Baptist will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. ALL TIME SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Dallas Baptist 16-0-1 in a series that dates to 1992. The Buffs won the first 16 meetings in the series before the Patriots pulled out a 1-1 draw. Last season saw the teams meet twice with WT claiming a 2-0 regular season victory in Dallas. The Buffs and Patriots rematched in the LSC tournament semifinals where the two teams played to a 1-1 draw. Dallas Baptist eventually outlasted WT in penalty kicks to advance to the championship game. In the series, WT is 8-0 on the road and 8-0-1 in conference play against the Patriots.

SCOUTING DALLAS BAPTIST
The Patriots welcome the Buffs on Saturday after a scoreless draw with No. 14 Midwestern State on Wednesday to move their record to 2-3-6 overall and 1-1-2 in Lone Star Conference play. Peyton Voelker leads the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists followed by Hunter Dierlam with eight points on three goals and two assists. On the season, nine different players have scored for DBU with nine players recording an assist. In goal, two different goalkeepers have seen time with Patrick Banich accounting for 810 of the team's 990 minutes although Garrett McGee has received the last two starts. Together, the pair have combined for 16 goals allowed and 31 saves on 130 shots faced for 1.45 goals against average, 0.660 save percentage, and three shutouts.

LAST TIME OUT
West Texas A&M men's soccer couldn't overcome a pair of second-half goals from Sul Ross State as the Buffs fell 2-0. WT came off the opening kick with a few passes before sending a ball up the pitch for
Quintin Benn-John. Benn-John gained possession inside the Sul Ross State 18-yard box where he took on Benjamin Aviles in goal. As Benn-John reached the goal line, the forward fired a shot, but Aviles converted a save to keep the game scoreless less than 15 seconds into the match. Theo Bennetts on the back post. Bennetts took a touch before sending a shot to the near post but missed the target. Sul Ross State netted goals in the 51

BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 34th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 378-176-58 (.665) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 568-243-74 (.684) overall record at WT.

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament champion Midwestern State received all but one of the 33 possible first-place votes for a total of 362 points. WT finished second in the voting with a total of 303 points followed by St. Mary's with 275 points and a first-place vote. Dallas Baptist (266) and Texas A&M International (211) round out the top five with Lubbock Christian (179), Oklahoma Christian (174), Eastern New Mexico (136), and UT Tyler (124) following. St. Edward's (113) and Sul Ross State (35) finish out the poll.

Midwestern State's Mere Escobar and Juan Galindo were tabbed the LSC Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while St. Mary's Johnny Thurbin earned Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors.

A LOOK AHEAD
The Buffs return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 with the Rivalry on the Range match against Lubbock Christian. Action between WT and the Chaps is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at the LCU Soccer Facility in Lubbock.
