ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The No.6 Lady Buffs had four personal bests along with ten top-10 finishes in events at the New Mexico Team Open held at the Albuquerque Convention Center from January 26-27. On day two of the meet the Lady Buffs were led by freshman
Joy Udo-Gabriel and graduate student
Corrssia Perry.
LADY BUFFS
Udo-Gabriel led the Lady Buffs in the 60-meter invitational race where she bettered her preliminary time of 7.44 to 7.41 in the finals placing sixth out of 22 competitors. The freshman hailing from Abia, Nigeria has three top marks (2
nd, 6
th, 10
th) in indoor WT history. This meet she added the 6
th fastest time in the finals (7.41).
Corrssia Perry, of Carrolton, Georgia, had top times in the 400-meter invitational and 600-meter races. Perry secured the third fastest time in WT history in the 400-meter race and has the top three times in that event for the Lady Buffs.
Following top performers for the second day, were Lady Buffs
Kalkidan Vincendeau, who bettered her mile time to 5:09.74 to finish 16
th and
Jordan Brown who finished 10
th in the 400-meter invitational. From yesterdays events to today, the Lady Buffs saw their freshmen Udo-Gabriel and
Blessing Akintoye bring the heat in the sprints divisions.
PROVISIONAL MARKS
Currently, the No. 6 Lady Buffs have 22 provisional marks as they near the Lone Star Conference Championships coming at the end of February. WT Lady Buffs have the most provisional times in the 60-meter with Udo-Gabriel (7.39),
Leah Belfield (7.55),
Deborah Acheampong (7.56),
DeOndra Green (7.57) and
Amari Weatherford (7.59).
Six distance runners, four mid-distance, six field athletes and one pentathlete have provisional marks so far this indoor season.
Elliot Harrison is the sole pentathlete with a provisional mark, but fans can see Elliot,
Laiten Greeson and
Maryn Noble competing this upcoming weekend in multi events to better their chances at a spot at indoor nationals.
COMING UP
The Buffs will travel back to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the NM Collegiate Classic and Multis for a two-day meet on February 2-3.
