ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The No.1 Buffs had ten personal bests along with four top ten finishes at the New Mexico Team Open held at the Albuquerque Convention Center from January 26-27.
PERSONAL BESTS
On day two of the meet, the Buffs had a personal best with sophomore
Jerry Jakpa running a 6.91 in the 60-meter to finish 12
th in the race. Freshman
Noah Watt bettered his mile time to 4:21.83 to become the second Buff of the day with a personal best time.
William Amponsah ran the 3,000-meter on Friday to place second in 8:09.84, marking the time the second fastest in Buff history in the race. Following Amponsah were teammates Matthys Bourse (5
th, 8:17.76),
Louis Moreau (8
th, 8:30.27),
Adrian Legarreta (11
th, 8:32.14) and
Enrico Oddone (16
th, 8:40.55).
Aziz Mohammed finished eighth in his 800-meter race with freshman
Adrian Solis running a personal best in the event.
PROVISIONAL MARKS
The No. 1 Buffs have 22 provisional marks so far this season with the distance runners leading the way with seven in two events. Moreau and Amponsah lead in the mile and 5,000-meter with Oddone hitting a provisional in both races as well.
Three heptathlon athletes have hit marks to qualify for nationals with senior
Gerard Bryant leading along with
Romet Vahter and
Allen Henderson. In the 60-meter is national leader
James Dadzie and teammate
Isaac Botsio with fourth fastest time in the nation.
Field event athletes,
Hamdi Ali and
Seniru Amarasinghe are in the high jump, and
Joseph Oreva has a mark in the long jump.
Luke Holcombe is the sole thrower in the shot put.
COMING UP
The Buffs will travel back to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the NM Collegiate Classic and Multis next weekend for a two-day meet on February 2-3.
