CANYON, TX- The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M Track and Field competed in Norman, Okla. at the Crimson Storm Invitational as well as the Dr. MLK Jr. Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico that saw three personal bests in events and a win for sophomore
Meadow Gallentine.
CRIMSON STORM INVITATIONAL
Gallentine took first in the weight throw at 17.79m (58'4") at the Crimson Storm meet to fetch her second personal best throw of the season and overall fourth best distance in indoor for the Lady Buffs top-10. The most recent Lady Buff to make WT's top-10 was All-American Zada Swoopes in 2022. Gallentine has reached two top-10 throws in her sophomore season with her best throw coming in early December at the Crimson and Gold Invite at 18.02m which places her right behind Swoopes best career throw of 19.30m. She finished off the meet with a fourth place in shot put (12.54m) as well.
The Lady Buffs saw dominant efforts in the long jump taking 2
nd-4
th and 6
th-8
th places in the finals. Lone Star Conference Field Athlete of the Week,
Kailee Benton, lead the Lady Buffs with a jump of 5.53m (18' 1.75) to place second followed by teammates
Miriam Zanovello (3
rd, 5.50m);
Daniela Pesic (4
th, 5.48m);
Maryn Noble (6
th, 5.24m);
Laiten Greeson (7
th, 5.24m); and
Elliot Harrison (8
th, 5.23m).
Joey Zimmerman kept on a hot streak in the pole vault with a second place finish at 3.46m and teammate
Jada Sewell took third in the weight throw at 15.85m.
DR. MLK JR. COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
In New Mexico,
Eleonora Curtabbi ran the mile for her last debut for indoor with the Lady Buffs. Curtabbi ran fast enough to claim fifth place in 4 minutes, 56.5 seconds and fifth fastest time in WT history. She now owns the top-5 times in the indoor mile for the Lady Buffs. Making their debut in the same event were transfer distance runners
Elise Leveel and
Kalkidan Vincendeau where they finished side by side in 13
th and 14
thplace.
Raquel Chavez was the sole 800-meter runner for the Lady Buffs and she placed ninth at 2:15.84 and came up short of her personal best by .34 milliseconds but placed fifth best time overall in WT history.
PERSONAL BESTS
Three Lady Buffs had personal bests which included
Laiten Greeson's shot put, 11.09m;
Maryn Noble's long jump, 5.24m; and Audrey Uzouwku's triple jump, 11.11m.
