CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team looks to snap a two-game losing streak on Tuesday against Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm, who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, come to Canyon for the first time since 2018. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at The Pitch. Â

WT leads the all-time series with Southern Nazarene, 6-1-0. The Buffs and Crimson Storm last met in 2021 where WT won 1-0 in overtime. The 2021 win extended the Buffs' win streak to five games. Â

SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
Southern Nazarene comes into the contest with a 2-1-1 record. The Crimson Storm started the season with a scoreless draw with Oklahoma Christian before defeating Southwest Baptist, 6-4. SNU dropped road contest to Dallas Baptist before winning at home against Drury. Offensively, Bruno Ferriera leads the team with four goals and two assists while Unaiz Shajani follows with two goals. In goal, Andrej Krivopapic has started every game, allowing seven goals and making 11 saves.

BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 33rd season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 30 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 370-166-50 (.674) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 559-233-67 (.690) overall record at WT.

LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs couldn't overcome a two-goal halftime deficit against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. Fort Lewis took the lead in the 25
th minute before adding a goal before halftime. WT found offensive chances as the Buffs tallied nine shots but couldn't find the back of the net for the second game in a row. Of the nine shots, WT only managed to find frame twice.

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference champion St. Mary's sat atop the rankings, collecting 22 of 30 first-place votes for 283 points, followed by Midwestern State (three fpv, 242 points). The Buffs followed just behind the Mustangs with three first-place votes and 237 points. Dallas Baptist collected 207 points with two first-place votes and Oklahoma Christian (192) finished out the top five teams.

Lubbock Christian (155) sat sixth in the poll followed by UT Tyler (114) and Texas A&M International (88). St. Edward's (75) and Eastern New Mexico (57) finish the preseason poll.Â

A LOOK AHEAD
WT stays at home for a matchup with #22 Northwest Nazarene. The matchup with the Nighthawks is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday.
