FINAL RESULTS
CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track and Field win the Lone Star Conference Championship for the third consecutive year and will go down in LSC history as the first men's and women's team to ever do so.Â

The Lady Buffs earned 280.50 team points to take first place. They dominated early on in the championship and held onto first place throughout the weekend of competition. Angelo State University finished behind the Lady Buffs with a team total 197 points.Â

The Buffs finished with 228 team points and came away with first place after the third day of competition. They were in a tight race with the Angelo State Rambelles for first throughout the three days. Day one the Buffs were in second place, day two they tied at 58 team points with the Rambelles before securing first place on the third and final day of the championship.Â

Head Coach Matthew Stewart, who has led the Buffs and Lady Buffs for the past six seasons said "Winning the LSC championships for the 3rd time in a row is an outstanding achievement for our program.  Our student athletes performed at a very high level and showed the true competitors that they are. Every event group contributed to this Championship and that is something we envisioned when building this team.  We look forward to continuing our season and finishing strong at the NCAA Division II Championships in Pueblo, CO (May 25-27)."

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES
Lady Buffs
Â
The Lady Buffs had nine first place finishes and 28 top-five performances at the LSC Championship. Reigning triple jump champion,
Taylor Nelloms, continued her dominance in the event and made podium in the high jump and long jump. Senior,
Brooke Urban, took the No. 1 spot in the nation with a height of 1.81m in the high jump. Eleonora Curttabi came in first in her main event, the steeplechase, with a 200m lead above the competition. Curtabbi placed first in the 1500m as well.Â

In the 100m and 200m, the Lady Buffs prequalified six out of eight spots for the finals. In the 200m the top five finishes went to the Lady Buffs. In the 100m four out of the five top finishes went to the Lady Buffs.Â

The 4x100 relay team consisting of
Jordanae' Scott,
Leah Belfield,
Alana Wilson and
DeOndra Green were just .30 milliseconds from beating their own No. 1 time in the nation of 44.34.

Heptathletes,
Laiten Greeson and
Elliot Harrison, competed in ten events over the three days of competition. Greeson medaled in three including the heptathlon and placed in the top-5 all time in WT history. Harrison medaled in two events and finished with a personal best in total points in the heptathlon.Â

Florance Uwajeneza continued her streak of winning the 5,000m and 10,000m. Uwajeneza broke the LSC Championship meet record in the 5,000m with a time of 17:17.80.
Betty Bajika is following closely behind Uwajeneza with a second and third place finish in the same events. Mid-distance runner,
Raquel Chavez, ran her second fastest 800m this season at 2:12.42 and has now placed twice in top-10 WT history after her performance at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi earlier this season.Â

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES
Buffs
Â
The Buffs came to compete with seven first-place finishes and 24 top-5 performances. The 200m had six out of eight Buffs competing and they finished with the top-five places with reigning national leader,
Jeremiah Lauzon, taking first. Lauzon's time of 20.593 is the fastest this season. Teammate,
Joseph Manu, finished milliseconds behind at 20.597. Currently, they own the No. 1 and No. 2 spot in the nation. Manu finished 2
nd in both the 100m and 200m.Â
Â
Freshman,
Isaac Botsio, continued his streak of winning the 100m with a time of 10.10. That's the 10
th fastest time in WT history. Botsio ran his fastest time earlier this season at the Texas Relays at 10.06, he is just behind former Buff turned professional runner,
Benjamin Azamati.Â
Â
Graduate student,
Quinton Sansing, took first in the 400m with a time of 45.92. That's the third fastest time in WT history. He ran a 45.90 earlier this season at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi and has the potential to beat the fastest time ever set in WT history at 45.88. A record that has been standing since 1982 set by Earl Wilson. Sansing will have that opportunity at his last meet ever as a Buff at the NCAA Division II National Championship.Â

The Buffs 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams both took first place. The 4x100 run by
Joseph Manu,
Jerry Jakpa,
Jalen Purcell and
Isaac Botsio finished with a time of 39.95, they just missed the top five times by .39 milliseconds.Â
The 4x400 relay consisting of
Ohdel James,
Jamarkus Birks,
Malick Diop and
Brien Pittman had a narrow finish in first. Pittman was neck and neck with the Lubbock Christian University anchor before taking a lead at the last 20 meters. The 4x400 relay team are now the third fastest in WT history with a time of 3:08.47.Â
