Rugenerwa and Curtabbi Awarded LSC Athletes of the Week

CANYON, Texas- The Lone Star Conference announced on thursday that two West Texas A&M Track and Field athletes, Butare Rugenerwa and Eleonora Curtabbi, were selected as LSC Track and Field athletes of the week for the fifth week of the 2023 outdoor season. This marks four weeks where the maroon and white have been honored with LSC athletes of the week and the second week in a row that the track athletes for the Buffs and Lady Buffs were honored with LSC Athletes of the Week. 
 
BUFF TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Butare Rugenerwa posted NCAA Division II top 10 times in the 800-meter and 1500-meter at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California this past weekend. Rugenerwa also broke his personal records in both events with a 1:48.19 and 3:45.04 time, respectively. His times also ranked second in WT history in both events.
 
LADY BUFF TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
This is Eleonora Curtabbi's second LSC athlete of the week accolade this outdoor season. Curtabbi broke her own NCAA Division II season record in the steeplechase with a 9:57.76 at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California. Her winning time also ranks sixth all-time in Division II history. Curtabbi also ran in the 1500m, setting the Division II season record with a 4:18.72. Both times rank first in WT history.
