WT has a Successful Week at the Texas Relays

CANYON, Texas- West Texas A&M Track and Field competed in the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. The maroon and white had 28 student-athletes competing over four days in 14 events at the Texas Relays. 
 
BROKEN RECORDS
Eleonora Curtabbi competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase for the Lady Buffs and won back-to-back steeplechase races at the Texas Relays(2022-2023), a record in the history of the Texas relays. Curtabbi represented WT as the only Division II athlete in the event. She ran 10:02.30, which was her personal best, the best time in WT history, and she currently has the best time in Division II history. 
 
Florance Uwajeneza won her race in the 5000m with a time 16:07.13. This is Uwajeneza's personal best time and she holds the best time in WT history, along with the top three best times in WT history in this event. 
 
Joseph Manu, Jalen Purcell, Jerry Jakpa and Isaac Botsio ran in the 4X100 Texas Relays finals with a time 38.92. They are the second fastest time in Division II history and broke the nine-year second-best record that had been held by Saint Augustine's since 2013. They were 0.01 seconds from tying the best record in Division II history, also held by Saint Augustine's. Currently, they have the fastest time in WT history along with the second fastest time (39.56) for the men's 4X100. 
 
WT RECORD BOOK
The Buffs and Lady Buffs had a total of eleven WT records made at the Texas Relays this week. 
 
Taylor Nelloms, the indoor National and Lone Star Conference Female Field Athlete of the Year, placed second all-time in WT history in the triple jump at 13.29m. She now holds the top mark (13.52) and third-best mark for WT triple jump. She placed second out of 21 athletes competing in the triple jump and was the only Division II athlete to compete in this event. 
 
Butare Rugenerwa ran the 800-meter with a time 1:49.41 and became the third fastest in WT history. He now owns the top six fastest marks in WT history in the outdoor 800 meter.  
 
The women's 4X100 run by Jordanae' Scott, Leah Belfield, Alana Wilson, DeOndra Green at a time of 44.90 became the fifth fastest all-time in WT history. This group now owns four of the fastest times in WT history in the 4X100 since running together from 2022 to now. 
 
Joseph Manu ran the 100-meter pre-lims with a 10.14. Manu just missed the cutoff for the finals by 0.02 seconds. He placed 11th out of 45 athletes. He is in the record books as the eighth fastest all time in WT history. 
 
Jeremiah Lauzon ran the 200-meter finals with a 20.72 and placed tenth overall in the Texas Realys. He is in the WT record books as the eighth fastest all time in WT history. 
 
Noah Bundrock ran the 3000 meter steeplechase on Thursday with a time 9:09.06 making him the tenth fastest all-time in WT history. 
 
DeOndra Green ran in multiple events this week and had a time 11.54 in the 100-meter and stamped her name in the tenth all-time in WT history. 
 
Corrssia Perry is making a mark for herself as a mid-year graduate transfer after graduating from Sterling College. She ran the 400m with a time of 23.76 and became the tenth fastest all-time in WT history. 
 
 
RECAP
Laiten Greeson ran her best time of 13.95 in the 100-meter Hurdles. She was 0.01 seconds from running in the Texas Relays finals. 
 
Hamdi Ali hit 2.10m in high jump. He was the only Division II athlete in the high jump and finished 8th out of 20 athletes. 
 
Kenyon Mosley ran in the 400-meter timed hurdles with a time of 54.15 and placed 20th out of 65 athletes. 
 
Isaac Botsio ran in the 100-meter timed race with a time 10.21. He placed 3rd out of 186 athletes. 
 
Elliot Harrison ran in the 400-meter timed hurdles with a time 1:03.96. She placed 45th out of 96 athletes. 
 
The sprint medley was run by both the Buffs and Lady Buffs. The Buffs, comprised of Quinton Sansing, Jeremiah Lauzon, Brien Pittman, Butare Rugenerwa, ran a time 3:20.90 and placed 8th out of 14 teams. 
 
The Lady Buffs, comprised of Leah Belfield, Corrssia Perry, Jordan Brown, Eleonora Curtabbi, ran a time 3:58.56 and placed 6th out of 12 teams. 
 
The Lady Buffs also ran the 4X400, comprised of Corrssia Perry, Alana Wilson, Moillet Kouakou, Jordan Brown, they came out with a time 3:39.96 and placed 14th out of 45 teams. 
 
 
UP NEXT
West Texas A&M will host the Jo Meeker Classic and Multi at the Track and Field Complex on WT campus from April 6 - April 8.
