CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team begins its Lone Star Conference tournament journey on Wednesday as the Buffs host the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico. First kick for the LSC game is slated for 7 p.m. at The Pitch.

All TIME SERIES
WT controls the all-time series with Eastern New Mexico, 22-8-1. The series began in 2004 with the Buffs taking the first matchup by a 7-0 margin. In the two team's most recent meeting, WT defeated the Greyhounds 2-0 in Portales, N.M. during the 2022 season.
SCOUTING EASTERN NEW MEXICO
The Greyhounds start Lone Star Conference play with a 2-4-2 record and lost their last game against No. 18 St. Mary's. Ignacio Lopez leads ENMU with eight points on the season on three goals and two assists. Giani Mascarel has matched Lopez's goal total, sitting second on the team with six points. In goal, three different players have recorded starts on the season. Hugo Sacco has started the past three games for the Greyhounds, posting 1.33 goals-against average and .733 save percentage with four goals allowed and 11 saves on 35 shots faced. As a team, the ENMU hold a 2.00 goals-against average and .590 save percentage.
BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 33rd season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 30 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 373-168-51 (.673) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 562-235-68 (.689) overall record at WT.
LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs got on the board in the 17
th minute when
Theo Bennetts registered the game's first shot. After WT forced a corner kick from the St. Edward's defense,
Matteo Landais sent a service to the back post. Bennetts, making a run, timed his jump perfectly as he connected with a header and placed the ball in the back of the net. The Hilltoppers tied the game in the 30
th minute as a throw in bounced around the WT box. As
Asaf Kristal came off his line, Irvan Abarca tapped the ball into the goal. The remainder of the game went without a goal as the two teams played to a draw.
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference champion St. Mary's sat atop the rankings, collecting 22 of 30 first-place votes for 283 points, followed by Midwestern State (three fpv, 242 points). The Buffs followed just behind the Mustangs with three first-place votes and 237 points. Dallas Baptist collected 207 points with two first-place votes and Oklahoma Christian (192) finished out the top five teams.
Lubbock Christian (155) sat sixth in the poll followed by UT Tyler (114) and Texas A&M International (88). St. Edward's (75) and Eastern New Mexico (57) finish the preseason poll.

The Buffs hit the road for their first LSC contest at Lubbock Christian. Action between the Buffs and Chaps starts at 7 p.m. at the LCU Soccer Facility.
