CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team hosts the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's on Wednesday for its annual Senior Day. The Lone Star Conference contest is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Canyon with senior recognition taking place at halftime.Â

All TIME SERIES
The Lady Buffs and Hilltoppers have met 13 times since the series started in 2000. WT leads the series with an 8-2-3 record and is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings. The Lady Buffs have won three straight meetings including a pair of wins in the 2022 season. During the regular season, WT won 1-0 in Austin before taking down the 'Toppers 2-1 in the Lone Star Conference tournament.

LAST TIME OUT
Facing the top team in the conference, the Lady Buffs came up a goal short of Texas Woman's on Saturday. WT held the Pioneers scoreless in the first half but couldn't net a goal of its own either. In the second half TWU took the lead in the 49
th minute after wearing down the Lady Buff defense. WT created its best scoring chance of the evening late in the second half when
Alexsis Villarreal sent a ball over the Pioneers' back line for
Avery Putnam. Putnam played a give-and-go with
Ashley Silvestre, creating an open look at goal from 18 yards out. Putnam's shot curled just high of the corner, narrowly missing the tying goal.

SCOUTING ST. EDWARD'S Â
St. Edward's enters the game with a 4-5-3 and 3-4-2 mark in conference play. The Hilltoppers come off a 2-2 draw against UT Permian Basin, a draw that snapped a three-game losing streak. Caitlyn Gonzalez leads St. Edward's with nine points on two goals and five assists while Ari Ramirez leads the team with four goals. Daria Schlumbohm and Hannah Simpson have split starts in goal for the Hilltoppers. The pair have combined for 21 goals allowed and 50 saves on 165 shots faced for a 1.75 goals-against average and .704 save percentage.

LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference champion Dallas Baptist picked up 37 of 39 possible first-place votes and 504 points to top the poll. Angelo State followed the Patriots in the standings with 457 points. WT finished third (one first-place, 412) while Lubbock Christian (351) and St. Mary's (339) rounded out the top five.

St. Edward's received the sixth spot with 318 points followed by Midwestern State (299) and UT Tyler (219). Texas A&M International (182) and Oklahoma Christian (149) finish the top 10 with Texas Woman's (127), Eastern New Mexico (114), and UT Permian Basin (78) conclude the rankings.
