LSC Top 2022 Times
RICHARDSON, Texas – West Texas A&M nearly swept the Lone Star Conference Cross Country awards as three runners received weekly honors following the leagues announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
Sibling duo
Innocent Murwanashyaka and
Florance Uwajeneza swept the LSC Men's and Women's Runner of the Week accolades while
Lexi Maul was named the Women's Freshman of the Week.
Murwanashyaka led the Buffs to a season-opening victory as No. 23 WT claimed the Big Country Festival team title. Murwanashyaka was the top Division II runner as the senior ran a personal-best 18 minutes, 39.6 seconds. The St. Paul, Minn. product averaged 5:00.3 a mile to finish third on the 6-kilometer course behind Tarleton State's Kevin Baez and Texas Tech's Isaac Hernandez.
Uwajeneza the women's squad to a 2
nd-place finish in Abilene, with the No. 29 Lady Buffs falling just three points behind TCU. The All-American was the top Division II performer and was just one-of-three runners to finish the 4-kilometer course in under 14 minutes. She finished second with a personal best 13:50.7, finishing behind Abilene Christian's Irene Rono.
Maul made her collegiate debut as the freshman was the fourth finisher for the Lady Buffs. The Pampa, Texas product finished in 15:06.3 to place 15th overall, grabbing 14 points for WT in a race the Lady Buffs bested three Division I teams.
WT will be back on the course on Sept. 17 in Lubbock to compete in the Texas Tech Open.
