Buffs, Eagles Prep For Non-Conference Bout

CANYON, Texas -- The West Texas A&M men's soccer team faces off against No. 17 Oklahoma Christian for the two team's final non-conference game in the 2022 season. The Buffs enter with a 2-2-3 record while Oklahoma Christian enters with a 6-1-1 record.

SERIES HISTORY
WT controls the all-time series with Oklahoma Christian by a 13-0 margin. The Buffs won both meetings in 2021 by scores of 2-1. The first game between WT and the Eagles went to overtime while the second match finished in regulation.
 
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN
The Eagles come off a 2-0 loss to No. 4 Midwestern State. The Mustangs' first goal came after a Eagles' goal was waved off due to offside. MSU then scored 30 seconds after its first goal. Daniel Gutierrez leads Oklahoma Christian with seven goals. Alejandro Colom and Isaias Silva each sport four assists on the season. Fynn Koerner has accounted for most of the Eagles' minutes in goal, allowing seven goals and posting 12 saves.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs couldn't find an offensive footing against Lubbock Christian despite outshooting the Chaps 18-12 in the game. The Chaps held a 1-0 lead at the half and extended it to two on a penalty kick in the second half. WT looked to mount a comeback after Kenny Brown's goal in the 86th minute but ran out of time.
 
BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 32nd season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 29 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 366-163-42 (.678) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 555-230-59 (.693) overall record at WT.
 
COMING UP
The Buffs start LSC play next weekend as they host Lubbock Christian for a rematch. The Rivalry on the Range will take place alongside WT's Homecoming festivities. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 on The Pitch.
