Zada Swoopes and
Leah Belfield broke their own school records at the Ross Black Open in Hobbs, N.M. on the campus of New Mexico Junior College. Due to high winds, many athletes withdrew from the finals of running events. In total, the Lady Buffs grabbed 11 provisional marks.
Zada Swoopes picked up three victories for the Lady Buffs including a record-breaking performance in the hammer throw. The Whitewright, Texas product threw 187-4.0 (57.09m) to break her previous school record of 56.83m. She would return to win the shot put with a mark of 55-3.0 (16.84m) and discus at 172-7.0 (52.60m).
Leah Belfield broke her own school record in the preliminaries of the 100m as the sophomore improved her provisional mark with a time of 11.37 to finish second.
Jordanae' Scott also grabbed a provisional in the event running 11.58 to take fourth.
Brooke Urban recorded a national Top 10 mark as the Amarillo product jumped a season-best 5-8.0 (1.73m) on her second attempt to take first. Her clearance matches the second-best jump in program history.
Taylor Nelloms finished third with a clearance of 5-3.75 (1.62m).
Elliot Harrison finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56 before she finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles running 1:05.33 followed by
Cheyann Shadden in 11
th at 1:11.67.
Jayna Lueders placed sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 9-10.5 (3.01m).
Daniela Pesic led the way for the Lady Buffs in the long jump with a 19-1.25 (5.82m) mark to finish seventh followed closely by
Miriam Zanovello in ninth at 18-9.0 (5.71m).
Five Lady Buffs competed for WT in the triple jump led by Zanovello and Magnusdottir who went 3-4. Zanovello jumped 38-6.0 (11.73m) and Magnusdottir at 38-3.5 (11.67m).

WT will compete in the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock on April 29-30 hosted by Texas Tech at the Fuller Track & Field Complex.
