Lady Buffs Roll to Their 13th Straight LSC Indoor Championship

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M scored 208.50 points as they won 10 individual event titles on the way to the program's 13th straight Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
Abigail Abugire started off Championship Saturday with a victory in the mile, running a time of 5:00.36. Esther Conde-Turpin tied the third fastest mark in program history in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.32 to win the LSC crown. Abugire won her second gold medal in the 800m with a time of 2:07.30 for the sixth best time in WT history.
 
Blessing Akintoye continued her impressive season as the Nigeria native picked up victories in the 200m and the 400m. Her time of 52.28 in the 400m set a new school record along with a new LSC Indoor Championship mark while ranking sixth in NCAA Division II Indoor history. 
 
Helena Klutsey-Carboo finished 3rd (24.09) in the 200m followed by Deborah Acheampong in 4th (24.24). Emiliia Tangara claimed a silver medal in the 400m (53.48) while Sierra Cornell triumphed in a sprint down the stretch of the 800m to finish 2nd (2:08.57).  Acheampong claimed a silver medal in the women's 60m finals with a mark of 7.51. 
 
Leidy Cuesta added points to the WT total in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.99m to win the event. The Lady Buffs' distance squad put up monster points as Kalkidan Vincendeau finished 2nd in the mile (5:00.61) followed by Sarah Koomson in 3rd(5:01.27).
 
Naomi Addo dominated in the 3,000m with a time of 10:05.10 followed by Eliette Chaput in 3rd (10:08.19) and Julie Lafare in 4th(10:13.08). 
 
Esther Conde-Turpin found the podium again in the high jump, winning bronze with a mark of 1.63m along with a 3rd place finish in the shot put (13.40m).
 
The Lady Buffs closed out the meet with a victory in the final race of the day as Sandra Appiah, Helena Klutsey-Carboo, Asana Hamidu and Emiliia Tangara won the 4x400m relay with a mark of 3:37.34. 
 
WT now turns their attention to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
