Lady Buffs Outlast #10 Texas A&M-Commerce in a Championship Thriller, 67-66

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs trailed by as many as seven in the fourth quarter but a pair of free throws by Lauren Taylor with under 10 seconds left gave West Texas A&M their 16th Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball Championship in a 67-66 instant-classic with the #10 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
 
Karley Motschenbacher was name the Tournament MVP as she led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs, going 7-of-12 from the floor including 5-of-6 from the free throw line for a game-high 20 points to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Alivia Lewis was a force in the paint as the senior finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double while also tying an LSC Tournament single-game record with nine blocked shots.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 25-of-64 (39.1%) from the floor including 4-of-17 (23.5%) from behind the arc and 13-of-14 (92.9%) from the free throw line to go along with 45 rebounds (14 offensive, 31 defensive), nine assists, 11 turnovers, 11 blocks and three steals in the win.
 
LSC Player of the Year Dyani Robinson paced the Commerce offense as the sophomore from Cypress went 7-of-19 from the field including 3-of-5 from deep for a team-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. The Lions finished the game going 25-of-75 (33.3%) from the field including 3-of-9 (33.3%) from behind the arc and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the stripe with 46 rebounds (21 offensive, 25 defensive), four assists, eight turnovers, one block and five steals.
 
The Lady Buffs have claimed the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Championship as the 64-team field will be announced via an online selection show tonight beginning at 9 p.m. CT at NCAA.com.
