#4 Buffs Fall in the Series Opener in Extra Innings, 9-8

CANYON, Texas – The #4 Buffaloes couldn't hold onto a ninth inning lead as they fell to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, 9-8 in extra innings during Lone Star Conference action on Friday afternoon at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
The Eagles got on the board early as Michael DiFiore and Tanner White drove home runs with doubles for the 3-0 advantage. DiFiore continued his hot start to the afternoon in the third as the sophomore lifted a solo homerun to right field with one out to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
WT responded in the bottom of the third as Adam Becker and Will Fuenning drew an RBI walk with the bases loaded and two outs followed an OC fielding error that plated a pair to tie the game at 4-4. OC retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning as DiFiore singled up the middle with two outs to make it 5-4.
 
The Buffs tied up the game again in the home half of the fifth as Mike Manetta singled up the middle with two on and two outs to plate Kenendy Badgett and make it 5-5. WT took their first lead of the game in the sixth as Ryan Johnson doubled to right center to score Eddy Savoie for the 6-5 lead.
 
OC tied up the game in the top of the ninth as Grant Lake singled thru the right side to score Jaren Hill with one out followed later in the frame by a White two-run double to left center for the 8-6 lead. The Buffs wouldn't go down without a fight as Eric Ortiz doubled to the gap in right center to drive in two and tie the game at 8-8 with no outs.
 
The Eagles took used the long ball to take the lead again in the top of the 10th as Coleton Hinkle lifted a solo homerun to right field with one out for the 9-8 advantage. A.G. Ayala picked up the loss (2-1) for the Buffs, allowing one earned run on two hits with no walks and one strikeout in his 1.1 innings of relief.  
 
The Buffs and Eagles continue their LSC series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 4 p.m. at Wilder Park.
