Day 1 Results
PITTSBURG, Kan. – West Texas A&M track & field advances eight student-athletes for Saturday's final events on Friday highlighted by
Taylor Nelloms All-American performance. WT returns to action tomorrow with the men's heptathlon at noon while the Lady Buffs start at 5:30 with the 60-meter dash. Direct links for the live results and video can be found on GoBuffsGo.com.
Nelloms, a native of Humble, Texas, collected All-American accolades in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8 (1.73m). The sophomore placed eighth in the event before finishing ninth in the long jump at 18-8.75 (5.71m).
Speedsters
Leah Belfield and
DeOndra Green each qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash. Belfield automatically qualified after winning her heat in 7.41 while Green qualified with a time of 7.48. Belfield return to the track to run 24.06 in the 200m which was the fastest time in the first round to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
On the men's side,
Tyrin Lewis qualified for the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.90 to finish second in Heat 2 of the event. WT will have two competing in the men's 60-meter dash with sophomores
Benjamin Azamati and
Jalen Purcell. Azamati ran 6.57 in the first round to match the facility record while Purcell advances after running 6.79. The duo will look to add points for the Buffs in the in the 200m after qualifying for the finals in the 2 and 8 spot.
Gerard Bryant stands 10
th in the heptathlon for the Buffs with 2,987 events with the sophomore finishing as high as seventh the 60, long jump and high jump. Bryant will compete in the final events on the heptathlon tomorrow afternoon with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000.
