Freshmen Shine as the #7 Lady Buffs Roll on Community Day, 100-58

CANYON, Texas – The #7 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M finished out their exhibition schedule in style on Wednesday morning as they raced past the Northern New Mexico Lady Eagles, 100-58 during Community Day at the First United Bank Center in front of over 1,000 local elementary students and members of Buff Nation.
 
Bree Brattain led the way for the Lady Buffs as the freshman from Shallowater went 7-of-11 from the floor including 3-of-7 from behind the arc and 3-of-5 from the free throw line to tie a game-high 20 points to go along with 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and four steals. Four other Lady Buffs also finished in double-figures: Zoey McBroom (17), Mattie Boyd (16), Kyla Kane (13) and McKauley Gregory (12).
 
The Lady Buffs finished the game going 36-of-70 (51.4%) from the field including 13-of-28 (46.4%) from deep and 15-of-22 (68.2%) from the stripe to go along with 46 rebounds (15 offensive, 31 defensive), 22 assists, seven turnovers, five blocks and eight steals.
 
Miranda Salazar led the way for the Lady Eagles as she went 6-of-13 from the floor including 3-of-7 from deep and 5-of-8 from the free throw line to finish with 20 points along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. NNMC went 18-of-56 (32.1%) from the field including 6-of-25 (24%) from deep and 16-of-23 (69.6%) from the free throw line to go along with 33 rebounds (10 offensive, 23 defensive), seven assists, 16 turnovers, three blocks and six steals.
 
The Lady Buffs hit the road this weekend as they travel to Tampa, Florida to take part in the Tampa Holiday Classic starting on Sunday afternoon against the Florida Tech Panthers, tipoff is set for 12 p.m. CT at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
