CANYON, Texas -- The West Texas A&M men's soccer team faces Midwestern State for the second time in four days as the Buffs and Mustangs meet in the Lone Star Conference tournament on Tuesday. WT and Midwestern are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. at The Pitch in Canyon.

SERIES HISTORY
WT and Midwestern State meet for the third time in the 2022 season after two meetings in the regular season. The Buffs and Mustangs played to a 1-1 draw in Canyon on Sept. 14 before WT won 1-0 on Saturday. The Buffs trail Midwestern State in the series 23-31-5.

The Buffs held Mere Escobar and the Mustang offense off the board in a tightly contested contest. Escobar tallied a hat trick in Midwestern State's win over UT Permian Basin. The Mustangs feature 10 different goal scorers with Escobar leading the way with 8 goals.

WT bounced back from its first conference loss of the season to defeat rival Midwestern State 1-0 in Wichita Falls. The Buffs' lone goal of the game came early when

Rotem Weiss where he sent the ball in the back of the net on his first touch. The WT defense locked down the Mustang offense for the remainder of the game.

BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 32nd season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 29 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 370-164-48 (.677) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 559-231-65 (.692) overall record at WT.

A LOOK AT THE BRACKET
St. Mary's won the LSC Regular Season title while DBU took the second spot. Both teams received a first-round bye. WT earned the third seed and hosts sixth-seeded Midwestern State on Tuesday. No. 4 Lubbock Christian hosts No. 5 Oklahoma Christian in the other quarterfinal match. The winner of the WT and Midwestern State game plays DBU in San Antonio while the winner of the LCU and OCU game plays St. Mary's.
