Buffs Welcome Patriots on Saturday Afternoon

CANYON, Texas -- The West Texas A&M men's soccer welcomes Dallas Baptist to Canyon for a Lone Star Conference match on Saturday. The Buffs and Patriots meet for a battle on The Pitch at 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
WT is undefeated in the all-time series against Dallas Baptist. The Buffs, 14-0-0 against the Patriots, defeated DBU 3-2 in double overtime last season. WT has defeated the Patriots in regulation all but two times.
 
SCOUTING DALLAS BAPTIST
The Patriots enter Saturday's contest after defeating UT Permian Basin in Dallas. The Patriots scored in the 14th minute on a penalty kick, carrying the 1-0 lead into halftime. DBU extended its lead to three after goals in the 53rd and 67th minutes. UTPB closed the gap in the 69th but couldn't overcome the deficit. Peyton Voelker leads the Patriots with eight goals followed by Ethan Unger's four. In goal, Alexander Knepper holds 18 goals allowed and 47 saves on 128 shots faced for a 1.51 goals-against average.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs and Rattlers played to a scoreless draw in San Antonio. St. Mary's controlled the pace most of the game as they out-shot WT 16-5 in the game including 6-3 in shots on goal. Asaf Kristal made six saves to keep a potent Rattlers' offense off the board. Kenny Brown led the Buffs in shots with all three coming on frame.
 
LSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Following the Buffs' 1-0-1 week, Kristal and Saldana picked up Lone Star Conference Players of the Week on Tuesday. Kristal, a freshman, picks up Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time in his career. Saldana earns Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in his career.
 
BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 32nd season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 29 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 367-163-47 (.677) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 556-230-64 (.692) overall record at WT.
 
NATIONAL OUTLOOK
The Buffs rank 16th in the nation with 16.0 shots per game, leading the Lone Star Conference. Kenny Brown leads the conference in shots per game (3.67), shots on goal per game (1.92), and total shots on goal (23). Brown's marks in each of those categories places him in the top-15 of Division II.
 
COMING UP
The Buffs head out to Odessa to take on UT Permian Basin. The matchup starts at 7 p.m. against the Falcons.
