#6 Buffs Fight Back for a Series Opening Win in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – The #6 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M overcame a six-run deficit in the first inning as they ran their win streak to 12 games on Thursday night in the Lone Star Conference series opener at Hays Field, topping the Lubbock Christian Chaps, 12-11.

The Buffs had to play catch-up early as the Chaps jumped on the board for six runs in the opening frame. Ryan Johnson cut into the lead in the top of the second with his first homerun in Maroon & White, a two-run shot to left field followed later in the frame by a Kyle Moos infield single to make it 6-3.

LCU would add another run in the home half before the Buffs responded in the top of the third with a Johnson sac fly followed by a Reese Patterson RBI double to center and a Will Fuenning single thru the right side to score Patterson and make it 7-6.

The Chaps would add to their lead in the sixth with a Nolan Machibrod RBI double to center before WT answered in the seventh with a Kennedy Badgett single to center to score Izaiah Madrid followed by a Johnson single that scored two and gave WT the 9-8 lead.

LCU answered with a long ball in the home half of the seventh before the Buffs battled back once again with three runs as Kyle Moos began the eighth with a solo bomb to left center followed by a Keone Givens two-run triple to right center for the 12-10 lead. The Chaps would score one in the ninth before Justin Zamora stranded a runner on third with a strikeout for his second save of the season.

Chris Rodriguez picked up the win (3-0) for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of relief.
