Buffs Welcome Dallas Baptist to The Pitch for Afternoon Match

CANYON, Texas –
 Coming off their upset victory over #10 St. Mary's, the Buffaloes of West Texas A&M (2-1-0) return to The Pitch to host Dallas Baptist (0-1-0) for an afternoon match on March 13.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday against the Patriots. 
 
SCOUTING DALLAS BAPTIST
After their first two matches were postponed, Dallas Baptist fell to UT Permian Basin 3-2 on Tuesday night in the Patriots season opener under sixth year head coach Chip Dutchik. 
 
Alan Acuna and Jide Adesanya tallied both unassisted goals for the Patriots combining for six shots.  Alexander Knepper registered all 90 minutes in the post for DBU with two saves on seven shots. 
 
THE SERIES
The Buffs and Patriots meet for the 13th time on Saturday with WT leading the all-time series 12-0 after defeating DBU 2-1 in overtime in the 2019 season.  After an even first half, the Buffs grabbed the deciding goal in the 102nd minute taking advantage of a free kick. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
WT picked up their second victory of the season on Tuesday night as they defeated #10 St. Mary's, 2-1, in San Antonio with the help of two goals by Giancarlo Saldana.  The junior was awarded the penalty kick to put the Buffs ahead 1-0 before scoring the game-winner in 43rd minute to move the Buffs to 2-1-0 on the season. 
 
Alexander Vencel (2-1) earned the victory as he registered two saves in 90 minutes between the post facing five shots. 
 
LSC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Newcomer Saldana was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Buffs victory over St. Mary's announced by the leagues offices on Wednesday afternoon.  He becomes the first Buff this season to receive the weekly award and first offensive player since All-American Lucca Lima received recognition in 2018. 
 
THE 30th YEAR
Head coach Butch Lauffer returns for his 30th season at the helm of the Buffs.  The Texas Christian alum holds a 344-156-39 (.674) all-time record as the longest tenured coach at WT with a career starting back in 1999.  Including his 14 seasons as the head coach of the women's team (1996-2009), Lauffer is now 533-223-56 (.691) with the Buffs and Lady Buffs. 
 
AROUND THE LONE STAR
Three teams are locked at a 2-1 LSC record with Midwestern State leading with a 3-1 overall record with Texas A&M International and West Texas A&M tied at second.  UT Permian Basin stands fourth at 2-1-1 in conference play, followed by Lubbock Christian (1-1), St. Mary's (1-1), UT Tyler (1-2-1), Oklahoma Christian (1-3) and DBU (0-1)
