CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M started fast and never looked back as they took the weekend Lone Star Conference series from the Cameron Aggies with a 17-5 run-rule victory in the series finale on Monday afternoon at Wilder Park in Canyon.

The Buffs used the long ball early as
Jonah Gonzales connected on his first homerun in Maroon & White, a solo shot to left center for the early 1-0 lead. Cameron responded in the home half with doubles from Jayce Clem, Ryan Carter and Casey Yeager the make it 4-1.

WT retook the lead in the second as
Keone Givens and
Will Fuenning drew bases loaded walks with two outs followed by a
Reese Patterson two-run single to right center. WT wasn't done as Fuenning scored on an errant throw followed by a
Ryan Johnson RBI single to make it 7-4.

Cameron used the long ball in the bottom of the second as Beau Williams lifted a solo shot to right with one out. The Buffs responded in the third as they loaded the bases with Givens drawing another walk to force a move to the CU bullpen,
Justin Robinson would later score from third on a passed ball to run the lead to 9-5.

The Buffs added to their lead in the fifth with five runs on five hits to go along with a pair of Aggie errors to make it 14-5. WT wasn't done yet as they used a Patterson hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded followed by an
Abel Pena sac fly to left to extend the lead to 16-5.
Eric Ortiz added to the lead in the seventh with an RBI double to right center to score Gonzales at 17-5.

Todd Danzeisen picked up the win (1-0) on the mound for the Buffs as the senior lefty allowed just one earned run on two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in his 4.1 innings of relief.Â

The Buffs return to Lone Star Conference action this weekend with a three-game series against the UT Permian Basin Falcons beginning on Friday night in Canyon.Â
