LUBBOCK, Texas – West Texas A&M finished sixth at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships as the No. 27 Buffs registered 177 total points.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference swept the top five at the South Central Regional Championships led by Colorado School of Mines. With 42 total team points, Colorado School of Mines claimed their third straight regional title in four years followed by Adams State (54), Colorado Christian (91), UCCS (99) and Western Colorado (121) to round out the top five.
Ezekiel Kipchirchir was the top finisher for the Buffs as the senior completed the 10-kilometer race in 31 minutes, 5.4 seconds to place 24
th as an individual. Following closely behind Kipchirchir was Lone Star Conference Champion
Innocent Murwanashyaka. The St. Paul, Minn. native finished 27
th with a time of 31:14.58.
Jay Hall was the third Buff to cross the finish line as the junior finished the regional race 39
th overall in 31 minutes, 34.46 seconds.
Briggs Wittlake finished 43
rd at 31:40.79 followed by
Noah Bundrock (44
th, 31:41.68),
Harry Louradour (59
th, 32:11.43) and
Gustavo Posada (77
th, 32:44.08).
Colorado School of Mines, Adams State and Colorado Christian claimed the region's automatic bids to the National Championships along with the top five individual finishers who are not a part of a qualifying team. Teams and individuals will await the selection of the at-large championship field for the NCAA Division II National Championships. Selections will be announced on Monday, November 8, on NCAA.com.
