No. 15 West Texas A&M Looks to Bounce Back with Match Against DBU

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M looks to bounce back following a heartbreaking loss as the No. 15 Buffs head to Dallas to face DBU in Lone Star Conference action on Saturday night.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Patriot Soccer Field.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's match marks the 14th meeting between the Buffs and Patriots with WT leading the all-time series.  WT won last season 1-0 to extend their match win streak out to 14 to stay undefeated against the Patriots. 
 
SCOUTING DBU
The Patriots are 4-4 overall heading into the weekend with a 1-2 conference mark with a 3-1 victory over UT Permian Basin under first season head coach Jess Jobe.  With just 12 goals on the season, DBU averages 1.5 goals per match on 11.8 shots with a .447 shot-on-goal percentage. 
 
Emmanuel Loni has scored four times this season for the Patriots while Ethan Unger has a team-high 19 shots and two game-winners.  Alexander Knepper has registered all eight starts as DBU's keeper with 32 saves and a .744 save-percentage which ranks first in the Lone Star Conference.   
 
WEEKLY HONORS
Denis Herrera was tabbed the LSC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon as we became the the third Buff to earn conference weekly honors this season, joining Giancarlo Saldana and Anthony Perea.  He earned the weekly honors for the first time in his career after he led the nationally-ranked Buffaloes offense with three goals including two game-winners in week seven play. The junior averages 2.33 goals per match to now rank sixth in the conference.
 
BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is in his 31st season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M University. Saturday's match against Texas A&M International marked Lauffer's 830th career game coaching at WT, and is two wins away from his 550th overall victory.  As the longest tenured head coach in WT history, Lauffer has coached the men to 29 consecutive non-losing seasons and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 359-160-39 (.678) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 548-227-56 (.693) overall record at WT.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Buffs recorded just their third loss of the season after falling to St. Mary's 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday night.  WT outshot the Rattlers 15-14 with Denis Herrera recording the lone goal for the Buffs in the 47th-miniute after completing passes from Stefan Andjelic and Denis Herrera.  Tom Miles was credited the loss to move to 8-1-0 as the freshman compiled two saves.
 
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
Midwestern State and St. Mary's are evenly matched in the Lone Star Cosnference standings each compiling nine points with 3-0 records while MSU has just one record loss to WT.  The Buffs rank third in the standings with six points along side UT Tyler and Texas A&M International. 
 
A LOOK AT THE HERD
The Buffs have outscored opponents 28-21, averaging 2.33 goals per match on 16.3 shots which ranks first in the conference including a .444 shot-on-goal percentage.  Saldana has scored a team-high nine goals followed by Stefan Andjelic and Denis Herrera with five while Ben Siri leads the offense with four assists.  WT's defense has limited opponents to 9.4 shots per match with goalkeeper Tom Miles recording eight victories with 24 saves for a .632 save-percentage. 
 
USC DIVISION II TOP-25
The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M moved to 15th in the newest edition of the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll announced by the association on Tuesday afternoon.  Franklin Pierce ranks first in the national standings for the third straight week at a perfect 13-0-0.  Indianapolis (10-0-1) stands at second followed by Davis & Elkins (11-0-1), Young Harris (12-0-1), Palm Beach Atlantic (9-1-0) to round out the top five. 
 
REGIONAL RANKINGS
Midwestern State ranks first in the USC South Central Regional rankings at 10-1-0 followed by Colorado Mesa, West Texas A&M, Colorado School of Mines, St. Mary's, CSU-Pueblo, Colorado Christian, Regis, UCCS, and UT Tyler. 
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
The tournament will begin with quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, November 9 followed by the semifinal and championship matches at the No. 1 seed on Friday, November 12 and Sunday, November 14.
 
COMING UP
After Saturday's match, WT will have just three matches left of the regular season as the Buffs return to Canyon to take on UT Permian Basin.  WT will host the Falcons on Wednesday, Oct. 27 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
