Buffs Overpower Texas A&M International in the Series Opener, 14-4

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes registered 15 hits on Friday night as they rolled past the visiting Dustdevils of Texas A&M International in the Lone Star Conference series opener at Wilder Park in Canyon, 14-4.
 
The Buffs and Dustdevils continue their series on Saturday afternoon with a pair of seven-inning contests starting at 4 p.m. at Wilder Park.

RECAP:
The Buffs started off the scoring in the home half of the second inning as Justin Martinez tripled to center field with one out to score Mason Mays followed by a double steal to score Martinez and a Cade Engle solo blast to center for the 3-0 lead.
 
The Dustdevils cut into the lead in the top of the third as Andrew Holsey singled to right with one out to score Phillip Sanchez to make it 3-1.
 
WT added to their lead in the third as Mays singled to right to score Kyle Moos followed later in the frame by a Keone Givens two-run single to right center to run the lead to 6-1. International cut into the lead again in the top of the eighth as Adrian Castillo doubled down the left field like with two outs to drive in a run followed by a Hunter Trinidad two-run single to left at 6-4.
 
The Buffs got one back in the home half of the inning as Izaiah Madrid lifted a sac fly to center to score Engle followed later in the frame by a Reese Patterson RBI double to right field at 8-4. Darius Carter drove in Patterson and Kix Ferrel with a single to left before doubles from Martinez and Engle ended the game at 14-4.
 
Mathieu Gauthier picked up the win (2-1) on the mound for the Buffs as the senior allowed just one earned run on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in his seven innings of work.
